Faulty design
The problem with bachmann 4-8-4 is as with the 4-8-4 Northern, the side rods, and gear are weak and under normal operations they spin out of sync and all side rods and wheels get out of allignment, sending it to bachmann for repairs not an issue other than chances are you won't get it back but what ever they have available do to product going out of production defeats the life time warranty as if I wanted another locomotive I would buy it, plus tenders never weighted and lead truck never stays on track.
