SynopsisThe latest installment of the multimillion-selling Killing series is a gripping journey through the American West and the historic clashes between Native Americans and settlers. The bloody Battle of Tippecanoe was only the beginning. It's 1811 and President James Madison has ordered the destruction of Shawnee warrior chief Tecumseh's alliance of tribes in the Great Lakes region. But while General William Henry Harrison would win this fight, the armed conflict between Native Americans and the newly formed United States would rage on for decades. Bestselling authors Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard venture through the fraught history of our country's founding on already occupied lands, from General Andrew Jackson's brutal battles with the Creek Nation to President James Monroe's epic "sea to shining sea" policy, to President Martin Van Buren's cruel enforcement of a "treaty" that forced the Cherokee Nation out of their homelands along what would be called the Trail of Tears. O'Reilly and Dugard take readers behind the legends to reveal never-before-told historical moments in the fascinating creation story of America. This fast-paced, wild ride through the American frontier will shock readers and impart unexpected lessons that reverberate to this day.

  • Helped me get reinterested in reading.

I haven't read many books for years and years. This series has resurrected my interest in historical drama. Learning some neglected history in a compelling fashion. I'm not as gripped by literature as i was years ago but I find it a compelling distraction from poor television and news. As for value of the book that is subjective but I don't regret the purchase.

  • Never Trust the Government

A gripping tale of deceit, and total lack of concern for the Indigenous tribes of the Americas once they were overcome by a lying government that changed its' mind everytime something of value was found on the lands granted to the Indians as their home forever. They were promised food and sustenance by the government but got traitorous "government agents" as overseers who actually either stole or subverted the items intended for the sole use of the Indians.

  • Great Reading About the Battle for the West

Great history of the struggle to win the West. Atrocities on both sides makes for an interesting read. Never dull, easy to read and you won’t want to put it down. The true story of the Native Americans struggle to survive the White movements to settle the West.

  • Cannot put it down!! Outstanding!

So engrossing I am forgetting to eat or go to the bathroom,I can't stop reading. I can't believe the amount of research Bill O'Reilly had to do to write this "history" book. I have always been fascinated in the battle of Custer's last Stand, but this outdistances any other historical writing I've ever read. This should be for High School reading. . . a must. It is a bit graphic in it's battle scenes, but this is what happened. and we need to know about it. You will have a new appreciation of the American Indian and hardships they went through to survive. My husband knew most of this story and BTW he is part Cherokee. Now it was my turn to learn, I am in a small part Sauk Indian so we owe it to our ancestors to learn the rest of the story.

  • Native Americans lost their lands, hunting grounds, and their families.

Very informative and interesting. Historical fact about the relationship between competing settlers and U. S. government and military, and the Native Americans who don't want to leave their homes, land and hunting grounds. It made me truly disgusted about the massacres of those peaceful Native Americans, their women and children, even babies, by the military. Of course, the Natives retaliated, anyone would who were protecting their families and way of life. Things haven't really changed that much, either, since those days.

  • Killing Crazy Horse

I have just completed Bill O'Reilly's "Killing" series. I was unable to put these books down. This is the stuff you will never hear in your High School History classes. In depth, factual and enlightening. Expertly woven historical and emotional events in our great American History. I highly recommend this series for anyone.

  • Treatment of Native Americans

Great book. Very sad how the Native Americans were treated. Their land and food source (bison) were taken from them, and many of their families murdered. On numerous occasion, visits have been made to the area of the US where Crazy Horse, Geronimo, and Sitting Bull roamed, lived and died. Living conditions in some of those areas were terrible. If accepted by the Native Americans, our government should assist with the improvement of conditions in those areas without further delay.

  • Great read !!!

Bill O'Reilly's writing style is easy to read. His ability to intertwine Historical events with people that you remember from other events is compelling. I am going to read the complete set of the " Killing " books.
