Art Long (Dennis Quaid) aspires to be a country singer in Fort Worth, Texas, but his career is going nowhere. His wife Caroline (Carlene Watkins) and father Bill (Wilfred Brimley) don't believe his singing will ever be more than a hobby. Needing to earn money quickly, Art enters a "Tough Man" contest--a series of boxing matches with untrained nonprofessionals. On the first night Art wins, and is encouraged by the contest promoter James Neese (Warren Oates). Art believes that by continuing to fight, he'll be able to finance his singing career, but Neese is determined to keep him on as his star boxer, with little regard to Art's musical aspirations.Product Identifiers
