Function and style in a larger package
First thing is that I like the larger size and length of the semi-flat, rounded and contoured handle. You can really grip the handle. Now like all Opinel knives, the blade fits deeply into the handle, but if one desires, they can sand down the handle to expose the nick more and reshape it as they want. I have several no. 8 Opinels and love the size, but it's nice, even fun to have a big knife for slicing away at 2-pound chunks of cheese or for cutting a sandwich in half. The larger handle and longer blade seem to suggest hrder use than the smaller versions. I prefer stainless steels, but I love the carbon steel which can be made dark or just allowed to develop its own patina and is easy to sharpen up.

This is a large knife! It is an old time honored design that works. It makes a good hunting knife that is also a good camp knife. One of the smaller Opinel knives would probably be a better daily carry knife, especially for legal reasons.
