Cheap rangefinder does the work, most of the time.

A small, handy, light and simple to use rangefinder with only one button. Simply install a 9V battery, start it and just point the reticle at the object and press the button and it will calculate and show the distance (in meters or feet, your choice) in the viewfinder. It comes with a cheapish cordura belt pouch for protection from scratches and dirt. But have no illusions: the Bushnell Bone collector is a low-end range finder with low-end objective glass. Even in daylight, looking through the viewfinder is tiresome, but in low light conditions the image gets hopelessly blurry and will strain your eyes. In low light it has also a very hard time picking up the beam to calculate distance, and it has some difficulty in picking up readings from matte objects even in daylight. The reticle in the viewfinder is a rather big blobby circle that works well in daylight and open terrain up to about 200-250 meters. Beyond that and in mixed terrain, it gets more difficult to get a reliable reading. It feel and look of it is cheap and the plastic parts have spaces between them to allow moisture and dirt inside. It's surprising that 93% of the buyers who have reviewed the Bushnell Bone collector rangefinder would recommend it and 95% consider it being of good quality. In my humble opinion, it's not a good quality product and I wouldn't recommend it, unless you accept rather low standards. It depends on what the purpose of it is, of course, but this one is not for hunting or any serious use. I'd suggest spending at least the double of what this product costs and get a mid-range quality rangefinder that has better glass and doesn't feel like it's going to break at any minute. I'm not impressed and I got tired of looking through the viewfinder after using it only a couple of times. For the money you pay for this one, I guess it's good value since it's simple to use and it does the work, most of the time, but it really cannot be compared to the mid-range rangefinders from manufacturers like Nikon, Vortex or Leupold, let alone the high-end German or Austrian stuff.

  • Top critical review

Works well, eye relief is poor on it. Not a bad product..

Works great. I know it Reads true out to 60 yards. That's as far as I checked it with a tape measure. But it is really slippery plastic, EXSPEICALLY if u have dry hands. And pretty hard to get the eye relief to get yardage with 1 hand. But it allso is my first range finder. So I have nothing to compare it to.

  • Great value

This range finder is a great investment to my hunting gear! I use it to measure the distance to targets shooting my bow and guns. It works great from 10 yards to 60 yards, I have not tried to gauge anything any farther. This range bushnell finder has a crisp, clear view when looking through it. I like that it is camo, great for taking hunting. I looked through my buddies range finder and he spent 2 times the money for his and the view on his was not that good. I am very happy I purchased this rangefinder, its worth the money!

  • Good but not great

Used it the other day for target practice and it gave me two different ranges for the same object and I never moved. Other than that, I would recommend this product.

  • Impressed

I'm getting familiar with my Bone Collector range finder. I have been impressed so far with the accuracy and have measured many of the distances with a tape. The range finder is very accurate. My wife and I take it on our wildlife spotting rides and its been a real eye opener as we learn the real distances to deer, coyotes and turkeys.

  • Nice small rangefinder. appears to be accurate and picks out smaller bushes etc.

  • Basic tool

Very basic range finder. No bells and whistles. Does what it is supposed to do and does it well. Quite accurate. I use it for PCP air gun hunting and black powder hunting.

  • Worth the price.

It does what it is supposed to do. Not great at very long ranges, but great for bow hunting. I would make more defined finger "grooves" to make it easier to locate the power button.
