The Western Digital My Passport Black 1TB External (WDBBEP0010BBK-NESN) Hard Drive allows you to wield an extensive amount of portable storage. Manufactured by Western Digital (WD), this hard drive comes in a sleek black finish. It’s optimal for backing up important videos and pictures. Giving peace of mind to users, the hardware requires no special installation. Users need only plug the unit via the USB interface into the computer. Those seeking durable and reliable backup accessories for their computing system need look no further. The WD My Passport will keep files readily accessible and secure. Released in 2012, the WD My Passport is designed primarily for compatibility with desktop or laptop systems via the stable Microsoft New Technology File System (NTFS). This is the file format used by Windows 8 and other Microsoft operating systems. However, it can be easily reformatted to employ the Hierarchical File System (HFS+) format used for Mac. Through this process, Apple users can also enjoy the benefits provided by the device. As a 2.5-inch form factor external hard disk drive, the device is compact and easily transported. It measures 1 inch by 4 inches by 3 inches and weighs only 6.88 ounces. It employs perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology to securely store information on spinning disks. The spindle speed rotates at a rate of 5400RPM. This 5400RPM rate ensures that read-and-write operations are rapid and responsive. Users can connect these drives to a computing system via the USB interface. This type of Passport HDD supports USB 2.0 and 3.0, and it draws power from the USB cable as well. No additional power supply is required to operate the WD My Passport unit. Data transfer rates can run up to 5 Gbps through the USB cable. This helps to ensure that users don’t have to deal with long delays while moving a large file. With a full 1TB of space, users can store a massive amount of data. This can provide room for tens of thousands of digital photos, or for over 1,500 full-length movies. Transferring data is easy as well, as the user need only drag and drop files into the drive as needed. Furthermore, the unit comes equipped with a variety of technologies that assist the user in maintaining security. WD includes backup software in the unit, and this can be activated to protect data by backing up automatically. When a user changes or adds data to a computer, the HDD can be set to instantly make a backup copy. In addition, the WD Drive Utilities service offers a plethora of options for users to customize their device as they see fit. Diagnostic services assist in maintaining the health of the drive while preventing file corruption. This helps to safeguard the longevity of the device for extended use. Password and encryption features are also available on the HDD for improved security. Users can set a password of their choice to prevent unauthorized access of their data on the WD My Passport. This is complemented by encryption protocols, which can be utilized to make data unreadable unless proper authorization is granted.
