Close but NO cigar.
This rendition, misses the mark on Hank Williams. The acting was fair but NOT convincing. The story line stretched some facts and omitted many important ones. The singing wasn't even close. I believe this DVD does a disservice to the LATE GREAT Hank Williams.

Honky Tonk Blues is Good, But Not Great.
I have yet to see a really well done history on Hank Williams. I was hoping the American Masters one would be it. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. The value here is in hearing Hank's old band mates talk about playing with him. What is missing for me was no one talked about Hank's biggest early influence, Jimmie Rogers. Along with the Carter family, Rogers was the first big star in country music. His yodel influenced blues and country musicians like Howlin Wolf and certainly all 3 Hank's, Snow, Thompson and Williams. We also don't hear much from the next generation who worshipped Hank. George Jones said in his autobiography that when he heard Hank Williams had died he cried all day beacuse he loved him so much. Even Bob Dylan was influenced by Williams. ... When he made his Grand Ole Opry debut he sang "Lovesick Blues." The crowd went crazy and made him come back out and sing the song again for an unprecedented six encores! He was also the first country artist to cross over to the pop charts. His songs are still being covered by other artists today. Considering how short his career was, his influence has been huge. Like Louis Armstrong, and Bob Dylan after him, Hank Williams changed the game.
