About this product

Product Information

Kenji Eno, whose predilection with story-heavy adventure games has already yielded the Sega Saturn titles Enemy Zero and D, is at the helm of yet another such title: D2, the sequel to Laura Parton's original survival horror excursion. The adventure unfolds as the plane that Laura is traveling in is hijacked by terrorists, before being struck by a meteorite and crashing in the Canadian wilderness. Awaking in a cabin, she learns that passengers killed in the crash are inexplicably turning into zombie/plant hybrids. It falls upon her, and newfound friend Kimberly Fox, to unravel the mysteries surrounding the disaster. Viewed from a third-person perspective, players must traverse the barren, snow-covered landscape as they explore the facilities and buildings in the area, engaging in random monster battles as they do so.<br><br>When combat begins, the view switches to a first-person format, in which the player cannot move and is capable only of aiming the currently selected weapon and turning on the spot to fend off the approaching enemies. The monsters all have particular weak points that must be exploited in order to kill them. Timing of weapon reloads also plays an important part in battle. Killing monsters rewards Laura with RPG-style experience points, which will eventually ensure a level increase and improved Hit Points and Skill attributes. The latter increases the accuracy and damage potential of weapons. Though initially equipped with a machine gun (with unlimited ammunition), Laura can acquire an assault rifle, pistol, shotgun, and other such weapons during her quest. <br><br>Once indoors, the view switches yet again to first-person and restricts player movement, only allowing examination of the surrounding area by pressing the corresponding direction on the D-pad to view and manipulate specific hot-spots. While searching for clues and solving puzzles, first aid items and additional ammunition can be acquired to allow Laura to protect herself from the ensuing monster hordes. An additional mini-game of sorts allows players to hunt the local wildlife (such as deer, rabbits, and birds) and then cook the prey for use as a health item. The game features lengthy cut-scenes and extensive spoken dialogue.

You’ll never play a game like this

If you like games made by creators that have passion and creativity imbued in their work than this one is a must buy. I’ve never played a game like this and I never will get to see another because Kenji Eno died in 2013. It’s tragic that this was his last game. D2 is a reminder of how trying out new multigenre gameplay mechanics can be a risk worth taking. It’s not for everyone but if you like twin peaks + the thing + house of the dead + myst all mashed into a weird flawed but interesting story then get it.

  • D2 - Sega Dreamcast

D2 for the Sega Dreamcast is, for its time, a game with an original story and style. The story is based around Laura: a character loosely based on Laura from D. People who have played through D will perhaps notice subtle elements transferred to D2, for example; small piano melodies and such. However, the game is nothing like its previous installment. Instead of roaming around pre-determined paths in a castle, you are here situated somewhere in the Canadian Artic. Mostly you will spend your time killing human-plant hybrids, getting experience points and exploring the different houses and cabins of the area. Unlike D1 you have the option to explore greater areas, but still, the environments are somewhat limited. There are also some nice additions to the game, such as hunting deer, rabbits, ...

  • A unique experience!

D2 is the type of game that feels refreshing in this day and age. It blends a variety of elements from point and click adventure games, third person survival horror games, first person shooters, and even RPGs. It is a unique experience and a must have for collectors of the Dreamcast.

  • Horror with a message

Wandering around barren Canada was never more fun than in 2000 with this WARP classic. The graphics were decent for the time, the story remains confusing but enjoyable, and the atmosphere is perfect. The not so great features include the tank controls that require 15-20 minutes to get used to, a lot of backtracking, questionable voice acting from some of the actors, and the constant disc reading that makes my Dreamcast sound like a rifle that is being repeatedly loaded. Give it a try for under 30 bucks, and you might find the game heart warming (like a tentacle entering your heart).

  • D2 usa dreamcast (impossible to ripp & out of print)

For the 1st this game is pretty rare and usa is the only eng speak version. (never released in EU pal) Another thing is that its near impossible to make a back up of it cause you cant downsample the game enough to make it fit on 4x 700 MB CD because its a full 4x GDrom. The real sequal to D for psx and saturn. (not Enemy zero for saturn that many considered to be the sequal) It have the classic click n go system and some new cool stuff. It also combines rpg and shoot em up at the same time and of course some resident evil feeling in to it. Ill say worth adding to the DC before its away for good. havent succed in running it in the emulator yet due to its a big GDrom so get it!! Titan
