Just plug it in and go! Great little switch, pretty blinking lights, connectors on the front for easy access, rectangular metal box that lies flat and can be stacked, and sustains gigabit rates (unlike the TrendNet Green that it replaced, that didn't reach 200 mb/s). They also run cool and use very little power (I measured 3.4W). If you already pulled cat-5e cabling through your house, you can pick up a couple of these used for next to nothing.

I've had 3 of these fail in 6 yrs. Originally installed by AT&T they just stop passing traffic. Just bought one off ebay and brand new it knocked off three computers and a printer. Replace with an alt brand, also plug and play and everything works fine. The 5 port ones don't seem to fail as much as i have3 of those with no problems ever.

What is there to say about this? It just works. By that I mean is there is no dancing around settings and router settings and troubleshooting to make this work like you would with a router, no bridging needed. It just simply works. I know some routers are easier to work with then others but this is simply plugging plugging in your Ethernet connectors and then it works. No garbage software, no need to flash your router for open source software just so it actually works, no dealing dealing with wifi and making sure one doesn't crash the other. No this one is actually plug and play.

This is a very high quality switch, typical of Netgear, and works fine. Just be aware that the CAT6 connectors and the lights indicating connection status are on the same side of the box, so if you want to see what's connected at what speed, you'll also have to look at and deal with all the cables going into the thing. Turning the business side away from you gives you a lovely view of the power connection plug and cable, and security lock hole in the back. I knew all this going in, and so gave it five stars for performance. But in a home environment, the thing is just unattractive sitting on a desk no matter how you turn it. Netgear's less expensive plastic home-style routers, with only status lights in the front and all connections in the back may serve you better in a home office environment.Read full review

The Netgear Prosafe GS108PE Prosafe 8 port Gigabit Ethernet Switch was purchased to replace a Netgear FS108 10/100 - 8 port Ethernet Switch that was up-linked to a GS105 Prosafe 5 port Ethernet Switch. As you can imagine, this setup was causing traffic issues. This switch allowed for me to cleanup the wiring and speedup my connections without using an up-link, and with enhanced security and speed I needed. I would recommend this product,

This is one of the most reliable nad compact switches you may buy. Excellent metal construction, easy to install, very compact and is a Netgear, maybe the best switch around for the price. New or used is a great selection for a small network or for expantion of ports around the office.

I've used the GS108 for years, and they're just terrific. For an unmanaged 8 port switch, it is unmatched in reliability in it's class. Gets full gigabit speeds for local and WAN networking, and there is absolutely no setup required. Just plug and in and go. I like unmanaged switches better for almost every application. Especially for small and home offices, this almost can't be beat. There is no toggle for the blinking LEDs, which can be annoying, and be careful: the V2 switches can have some problems with the power supply cable (they fail, easy fix get a new cable).

This is an EXCELLENT Product. It gives you 100% SUPER FAST SPEED! You do not lose any of your MBPS - you get all of it. In some cases, it seems like my speed even goes faster. I use all 8 ports... My on-screen T.V. Apps gives me the full 100% of fast movies without freezing or buffering. I really love this product. I highly recommend this NetGear ProSafe (GS108) to everyone, that needs more Ethernet ports. This product is very, super easy to hook-up. Just click & go. This unit in not expensive at all, especially when compare it to other units. This is the Best Brand Name on the market to me. I have been a NetGear customer, over 15 yrs., and I have not ever, ever had any problem with there products.
I bought this switch as the first step to upgrade my home infrastructure and to save myself from running several long cables from my router. I ran one cat6 Cable to my entertainment center mounted, the switch and branched off to my 1. Onkyo nr906 reciever, 2. Samsung 58" 650 Plasma TV 3. Samsung 6500 Blue Ray Player 4. Dish Network Satelite box. Since one of the ports is taken by the line from the router, I now have 3 ports available for future equipement. I still have an old router and the rest of my system does not support gigabit speeds so I cant test this aspect of the switch, but as a pure switch, it worked immediately with no problems. I wanted the sturdier switch so I went with the ProSave metal version. I didnt realize that this switch doesnt have a good face on any side so it needs to be mounted out of sight. This is my fault for not looking at the pictures closely enough. I have since ordered the Netgear GS605 (5 port switch) for my office. THis model is more appropriate to be placed in plain sight. My only criticism is that the mounting holes are small and the depth is very shallow so if you do find a screw (mine didnt come with any mounting hardware) with a head small enough for the hole, it need to have a very flat thin head because it will come up against the internals of the switch. Overall the switch is doing its job. I will test gigabit speeds when I finish my upgrade. Im not a real techie, so my testing will only consist of seeing if the gigabit lights are on when they should be. I would recommend this product or the 605 model if you will be placing it in sight.Read full review
