I purchased this drive 'very lightly used' as an upgrade to the 120 GB Hitachi 5400 RPM hard drive originally installed in my Thinkpad T61 with 'modded BIOS' and running Windows 7 Ultimate-32 bit. WHAT A DIFFERENCE in the 'snappines' of this laptop and this laptop was already pretty fast. Windows 7 WEI for hard drive went from 4.4 to 5.9. I also ran a Passmark Performance Test V7 comparison on my laptop and the Passmark DISK MARK value went from 261 to 570. That's a WHOPPING increase!! Though NOT as fast as a SSD this was, IMHO, a very cost effective upgrade to my laptop. I run a small home based PC repair business. When it comes to laptops and desktops too, I have had good luck with Western Digital, Seagate, and Samsung hard drives but your mileage may vary.
The 7200 RPM drives retrieve data faster than standard 5200 RPM drives. Western Digital site has extensive information and shooting software. I say SHOULD because I believe the drive is used as a backup and limited to the speed of the my USB connection. - This drive should be an excellent replacement for an older or defective internal SATA dirve. Used a Western Digital "PASSPORT" 250GB for backups and travel and has functioned flawlessly for 3 years. I assume the new drive will function even better. Put the drive in a "cheep" ooops that's chicken talk,,,, cheap,, USB SATA enclosure, both have preformed with NO PROBLEMS.
Wei score is obviously a 5.9 , But I must have the wrong driver or something i'm only getting 84/86 read and write speeds and I thought it would at least get into the hundreds!! Overall a great lil quiet hdd and doesn't use much power
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
when you look at all the technical data and understand it you see that this hard drive is the fastest and out performs most, for the price no one can beat it. I high performance drive for ~$50. let me put it this way, 4 or 5 of these raided together would be no different then 3 $300 EACH HDD. So yes for ~$250 you can have the computer performance of $1000 + you will be at the MAX transfer rate of your SATA II connection 3GB/s. I swear by the WD2500BEKT, its the greatest all around drive and i would take it over other HDD on the market any day.
This hard drive fit easily as a replacement for my failing 5400RM 120GB laptop drive. It is very quiet, fast and has an enormous amount of space! I've used other brands before but I must say I'm very impressed with this very nice hard drive! -KnowUNIX
