  • A bargain and a blast to play!

I have to agree with Jerry about alomost everything. Buying this guitar has got me practicing more than I have in a long time. I had a MIA strat about twenty years ago and I loved everything about it except the tremolo. I just never used it and it was difficult to keep the guitar in tune, especially after bending the strings. I also wasn't fond of the flat C shaped neck. The RC MIM Strat solved both of those issues for me. The combination late fifties/early sixties C shaped neck is deeper where it needs to be and fits my hand to a tee. I am blissfully bending the strings and pleasantly surprised to find the guitar is still in tune! The vintage custom pickups are fantastic and perfectly suited to playing the blues. The sound is amazing through my Orange AD5 tube amp. The only ...

  • robert cray.....the frets are awful

i bought a brand new robert cray Fender made in mexico neck. it has a nice full profile but the frets are awful...the fret edges feel giant and sharp, so very uncomfortable to play, it hurt. i had to take some heavy sandpaper and bear down like heck on the edges of the frets, up and down the neck to make them smooth. i mean i really had to sand a lot.!..i succeeded in also softening the hard sharp feeling rosewood fretboard edge too and then i had to take a file and work on the fret ends even more then fine sand ...now it plays real good and is comfortable and feels kind of broken in now, but who wants to have to do ll this work to a 'new' guitar....?..thats not right...Fender did not do a good job at all on this guitar neck...very disappointed.

  • Great guitar but this version of the violet finish is unimpressive.

The guitar sounds great. My issues are with the aesthetics. The violet color is very disappointing. It is flat. It could have benefitted with a little bit of fine metal flake. As is, the color has no depth at all and is more in line with something out of the Squire series rather than a professional grade instrument. This guitar is not well carried in retail stores, so I had no opportunity to examine it before my purchase. Had I seen it in person, I would not have selected it. Also the rosewood fretboard had a blonde discoloration about half way down on the specific guitar I received. It probably should have been sold as a "blem" or second or whatever the appropriate term is for a cosmetic discoloration. So I would probably buy this guitar again but in a different color, ...

  • The Next Level of Play

I've been playing guitar since I was 13 and that is almost half a decade ago. Most of my time has been on a Martin six string acoustic. I settled for playing bass with groups and have enjoyed some beautiful electric bass guitars. Once about ten years ago bought a Gibson Les Paul on a whim and thought I would try my hand at lead guitar. After much frustration I sold it and my fifty-watt tweed amp and settled it -- I was a bass player and an acoustic noodler. After becoming inspired by Sonny Landreth and Derek Trucks I looked into slide guitar last year. It has been an exciting journey. I bought and set up an old Gibson SG for slide. After talking to an informative young player/salesperson at a local guitar shop I decided to look into the Robert Cray model to set up as a second ...
