The story is honestly the best part, and even that isn't that great. The graphics and control for this are horrible. If you are used to the newer stuff, this game is going to be hard to swallow. This game apparently was meant to be on the Playstation 1, but was rushed last minute to the ps2. It shows. The game has some mediocre voice work. This game did have some interesting aspects. The equipment system had a lot of potential, but it leaves much to be desired. If you like a good story, but mediocre game, go ahead and buy it. If you are used to epic story lines, great graphics, this is not for you.
It’s a first generation PlayStation 2 game so I wasn’t expecting the moon but, it really is an unplayable mess. Clunky controls, no enemy lock on, sparse environments and boring level up system with tedious puzzles. The game’s saving grace is the surprisingly fantastic soundtrack. A mixture of western tribal with eastern classical makes for an almost unworldly beautiful melody. Get the ost and skip the game.

Classic from software, worth the low price to see the early beginnings of this groundbreaking studio! Rough around the edges, as this is an early Ps2 game, but fun to explore.

When I hear the term "launch title", I tend to associate with very average, bland, by-the-numbers kind of games. And, in most cases this is certainly true. There are exceptions, however, and thankfully Evergrace (2000) for the Playstation 2 is one of those exceptions. Some of you may be familiar with the King's Field series of games spanning both the Playstation 1 and PS2. Evergrace was developed by the same company; From Software. Noting their heritage, I expected a hardcore, 1st-person RPG in a rather bleak fantasy-type setting, that did not lead you by the nose through the game. Instead, From tends to create games that just throw you into their worlds and let you figure it out for yourself with nothing but your own wit to see you through to the end. Well, I was wrong to stereotype their work. Frst, this game is told from 2 perspectives. Darius and Sharlene are selectable at the start of a new game, and before you finish you will be forced to play the other character as well. They do not have intersecting stories, however, so backtracking is minimal. This is an RPG, and it is in a rather bleak fantasy setting. It gives you little to go on, and instead lets you figure it out for yourself (a selling point for me). But, this is in the 3rd-person, and is a bit of an action-RPG. It is also a bit more colorful than their earlier titles. Plus, there are no 'levels'. Instead you earn crystals from combat that you can spend in the store (really a giant, rotating crystal that doubles as a save point) to buy weapons, armor, and items, as well as upgrade and repair weapons and armor with Palmira (the game's 'magic') abilities. These can range anywhere from elemental attacks/defense abilities to Levitation. To wrap things up, combat is rather basic. It helps to run behind the enemies and hit them in the backside where they are much more vulnerable. This tactic is recycled in every single battle in the game. It grows stale. It is rather easy, to boot and essentially boils down to 'hit X to win' I found it for $3 complete, and in very good condition here on ebay.com. Honestly, if you have any interest in From Software, AgeTec (the publisher) or RPGs that dance to beat of a different drummer, grab it. The Price Is Right ( :) ) and you can't lose. 3.5/5 *'sRead full review
Evergrace is from the creators of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and BloodBourne. Kuon and King's Field 1, 2 & 3 and Shadow Tower. Evergrace is a RPG but nowhere near as difficult as their other games. It is a decent RPG.

LOVE IT! Awesome role playing game for my kids. They love playing it all the time!I am probably the only one that at least sort of liked this game. Evergrace, was, to some people a total letdown. I have to disagree. Evergrace offers a lot, although it might not be as much as other games. There is still deep armor and weapon customization, and lots of weapons and armor.Evergrace is like a hack and slash RPG. Like Champions of Norath. Just not as good. The enemies are repetive and there aren't too many characters to interact with other than the shop keeper. One annoying thing about this game is that sometimes, it feels like your playing dress-up or something. The game is full of places where you have to have a certain pair of boots, or certain set of armor or something to pass.Moving on to the weapons. There are a lot of weapons in the game. Some are fast, some slow, so in the middle. Same with the strength of the weapons. Some are weak, some strong, some medium. Although this as been in RPG's for......... ever. One big issue with the gameplay is that it feels like you are killing the same enemy over, and over, and over again. It gets repetive and even annoying. Also most of the areas are somewhat small. Making the game feel compressed, and thrown together sometimes. And some of the journals of stuff that you can find and read in the game don't offer any information at all and are a complete waste of time. Evergrace sports some pretty decent music and decent sounds. It's nothing to get exctied about, but at least its not terrible. he graphics in Evergrace aren't anything like Square-Enix. But they are still good. They just seem a little out-dated.There is some decent value in this game. There are too characters with two completly different storylines to play through, but they don't really feel to different from each other. Overall, Rent Evergrace first. It's not for everyone. But hardcore RPG fans might get a little bit from this game. Like me.Read full review
