Synopsis
Ask the Dust is a virtuoso performance by an influential master of the twentieth-century American novel.     A heavy hitter in the ring of American literature. Stylistically unique.

    John Fante should be read by every reader of books and purveyor of great singer-songwriters. The mighty mighty Vic Chesnutt was so moved by the Fante novel West of Rome that he wrote a great song which he named West of Rome, and subsequently gave the name to his second album, his first masterpiece. John Fante's brilliance is wildly underrated. The ending of Ask the Dust is almost as memorable as the ending of The Grapes of Wrath, and nearly as moving.

    Read it. You'll be better off.

    Great book. A gritty American love story. I consider myself a profuse reader and this one of the best I've come across.
