About this product

Product Information

Filled with audio and video special features, the Sony Handycam Camcorder offers a lot of options to the videographer. This digital camcorder offers higher resolution, wider color bandwidth, and lower noise, a stunning performance of 530 horizontal lines of resolution, as well as an optical Super SteadyShot picture stabilization system for uncompromised picture quality. The motion sensors and optical lenses will not change or degrade the quality, and the precision color viewfinder provides a high-resolution image of subjects at 180k pixels. With the Sony Handycam DCR-VX2000 Camcorder, photographers will find the 2.5-inch Precision SwivelScreen Precision Color LCD to provide excellent clarity with super sharp detailed images during playback or recording. With a two-mode neutral density filter, the Sony Handycam Camcorder will compensate for unique lighting situations such as indoor studio lighting versus direct sunlight. Moreover, the Sony Handycam DCR-VX2000 Camcorder has high quality HAD design CCD imager to reduce noise in the video signal, and to improve signal-to-noise ratio by nearly double that of conventional CCDs. This is particularly valuable when shooting in dark situations. This digital camcorder also allows for high-speed bi-directional digital communication between two devices for editing, as well as allowing a 20-segment assemble edit. Finally, the Sony Handycam Camcorder uses a 58 mm 7-Element precision aspherical lens for quality optics, and a memory stick USB adapter to quickly upload those still images to the computer.

On Off switch a little sensitive and wheel to spin through menu a little sporadic, but overall works and looks incredible.

Had a recording error C:31:40 in the beginning, but after one day the problem went away and has not returned as of now. The switch from 'off' to 'record' mode, 'playback' mode etc. is sensitive and may turn off while in 'record' mode if not in a sweet spot. Also the wheel to spin through the menu is a little finicky, but gets the job done with some patience. Overall cannot expect too much considering these cameras are so old and it's difficult to find those in new condition. It works.

  • Wonder machine and great value for the price.

I needed a third camera for documenting concerts given by our community chorus. I have an older Sony Handicam, DCR-VX1000, which has worked very well over the years and this newer model will help make our final edits much more interesting. Picture quality is excellent and every thing works fine, only problem was some bubbles under the lens when the camera was aimed up at the ceiling. This didn't interfere with the picture in the usual horizontal position, but I sent it over to the Camcorder repair center in Glendale, CA and the 2nd lens group was replaced for $229. It's now in perfect working order.

  • Sony VX2000

Pros-The lowlight is amazing, easy to use, bayonet mounting system (For lens's), zoom and focus ring are perfectly responsive, still pictures are AMAZING for whats supposed to be .8mp (roughly),the battery compartment is recessed so you can fit larger batteries without having them extrude too much. Overall perfect placement of all controls (except one listed below). 3ccd's produce a very detailed picture, deffinetly above and beyond the standard for filming weddings and can easily be used for broadcast use. Also this camera is much easier to handle than an XL1. Also the big eyecup for the viewfinder is really nice. Neutral-Some say the 2.5 inch LCD screen isn't enough but I honestly never even use it. Stick with the viewfinder so you can avoid looking like a soccer dad. A common problem ...

  • Great quality at pro-sumer price

The quality and features ARE exactly the same as the PD150. Which is very similar to a VX2100/PD170. However, the differences are so minute it's hardly visible to the naked eye if at all. The only drawback to this camera along with the VX2100 is the fact that it does not allow an on board XLR mic to be directly connected. You would have to buy a separate XLR adapter to accommodate that need. This is really the only difference that is truly noticeable from the VX and PD series cameras.

  • Impresive video quality

I have borrowed this camera from my brother about 5 times and I love this camera. The video quality is amazing when compared with any other consumer camera. Actually, the VX2000 is supposed to be a prosumer camera, but it's so easy to use on AUTO mode. Although, you want to take advantage of the many manual controls for different lighting situations. You will hardly ever need a video light to shut indoors because the noise level is so low. The only thing I did not like is that the built-in microphone is a little delicate, it feels like it will fail very soon. You may want to get an external mic instead. As for the still images captured in the included card, forget about it. The max resolution is 640 X 480. Although the image quality is great, you can get much better stills with many of the ...
