    Inexpensive and easy to use, but gets too hot if you need 1 amp or more

    Inexpensive and easy to use, but don't try to get anywhere close to the rated 3 amps. I set mine for 2.8v output driving a 1-ohm load (2.8 amps), and the entire PC board got too hot to touch within a couple minutes. I was afraid to leave it running as I'm sure the heat would have continued to increase until something fried. Also, at that setting it was only 64% efficient (over 12 watts in for less than 8 watts out). That's no where near the advertised 92%, which explains the heat problem. This board would probably be fine for less than 1 amp, but I would not recommend it for anything over that.

  • Great regulators

    These switching regulators run much cooler than linear voltage regulators and work great. Add a fan if the current is greater than 1/2 Ampere. They can handle about 3 A. if the input can furnish 3 Amperes.
