The Saboteur is an open-world action adventure, set in Nazi-controlled Paris during Germany's rise to power in World War II. Players take the role of an unlikely hero: An Irish mechanic with nothing left to lose. Sean Devlin has lost all he loved in life because of the heartless Nazi occupation, and he now devotes his keen engineering skills to revenge, by destroying as much of the German army's equipment and infrastructure as he can. Considering his skills with explosives and heavy machinery -- and with his two fists, as well -- this is a significant amount of potential damage. The hero can run, climb, and make use of many different kinds of vehicles he finds. He is free to explore the 1930s City of Lights as the player wishes, and progress at his own pace down the paths he chooses, but contact with British intelligence operatives and members of the local underground resistance movement provides information that leads to more structured operations.<br><br>As he works toward his ultimate goal of vengeance against the high-ranking Nazi officer who ruined his life, Sean embarks on missions of sabotage, sniping, and assassination, using his mechanical skills, stealth, and street smarts. Each job presents unique goals and challenges, but in nearly all missions, the key is to remain unnoticed, using the element of surprise to take out an important Nazi officer or unleash massive damage on tanks and heavy artillery, and then slipping back into the shadows to fight again another day. The game represents Sean's subversive successes in a more indirect manner, as well, with its "Will to Fight" system. As the hero deals blow after blow to the occupying German forces, the repressed people of Paris are encouraged toward their own insurgency, and the streets and neighborhoods that Sean has freed from overbearing Nazi presence begin to take on a more colorful, positive appearance in the game, emboldening new allies and opening up more missions.

A Nice Surprise.
This as you may know is Pandemics last game. The studio has been shut down and is gone for good. I was worried this was going to be a buggy game like Mercenaries 2 was but I got a surprise. The game ran great, and I only saw a couple minor bugs. The key to it running great though is I run Nvidia hardware. If you check the forums this game has been a nightmare for ATI users, so if you do own an ATI card check the fourms out first. There is a beta patch that I used also, and driver fixes for ATI, but some users are still having issues. As far as gameplay goes, I had a lot of fun with it. You can go straight into a fight guns blazing, or you can take the stealth route. If you kill an enemy be sneaking up behind, or using your fist, your able to wear thier uniform. This coupled with a silent pistol was my favriot. All through the city theres tons of extra stuff to blow up, and it will make the game easier when your trying to get away. I was really surprised at how I got sucked into the game and wanted to keep playing. The abilty to climb is a nice touch also as it makes getaways fun and adds to the stealth. I recommend to anyone that likes sandbox games. Graphics wise this isn't anything jaw dropping, but the black and white Noir look was done very well. This is what sets it apart from other games and is definitly something to check out. As you take over occupied parts of the map the color is restored, while the other nazi occupied parts of the city will still be without color. This adds a really neat effect and the transition from occupied to free territories definitly changes the mood. The driving is alright, but not realistic at all. Most vehicles feel different, and aren't hard to drive, but overall it does feel a bit stiff. Either way you'll have fun. In conclusion I think this was a very fun game. The story drags a little bit in the end, but I like the characters, the graphics, and the settings. It's something a bit different and it will suck you in once you start playing. I would say if you could pick this up for 20$ it's a steal but its definitly worth 30-35$. I can't say any higher because support for this game is almost zero since Pandemic is gone.

Great game for exstended play,time consuming.
I purchased this game after buying a download ,cheap. I found this game is great,I play for hours at a time,the only hold back is you have to go so far back after geting killed each time.I also have alot of trouble with it freezing up the screen.Comparing this game against others,it is a geat game,well developed,and good graphic,mostly!Could use a few patches to correct a few things,but overall I'd recomend it to others! Open world games seem to be a dime a dozen these days, and almost all of them are set in a certain time period, but none of them have attempted Nazi occupied Paris, until now. Story: You play as Sean Devlin, an Irish racecar driver in the early 1940's who is given a purpose to wreak wholesale vengeance on the Nazi regime in a Nazi occupied Paris and the surrounding area when the main antagonist, a Nazi named Kurt Dierker XXXXX your XXXX XXXXXX XXXX (I hate spoilers). you are then set on a path to revenge, hellbent on taking out Dierker, no matter what the cost. Sean is quickly noticed by the french resistance and joins forces with them to push the nazis out of Paris, and get him closer to killing Dierker. So far (as i have not finished the game yet) it is an interesting and engrossing ... While he barely keeps his irish accent consistent, his reactions to all around him, save for getting shot, seems a little detached, and full of cliche lines. much more cant be said about the other actors as well, all acting a little contrived, but still, the storyline is well paced enough to see past the shallow puddles of the characters (6/10) Design: Like any open world game, The Saboteur is full of things to do aside from the main storyline. the main story requires your driving from one location of informant to another and doing their dirty work for them. in the progression of the story, Sean evolves, with perks that boost your Sean's abilities in a variety of ways, and with the storyline on his road to revenge. this game is basically like any grand theft auto game, but set in WWII France, which can be fun and novel at times, especially with the cinematographic style that its presented in, but can also feel overdone if you've played any other sandbox games recently. Its a formula that works, but definitely wont stick in your mind as original (6/10) Gameplay: I have never been partial to 3rd person shooters, but was able to adjust for games like GTA IV and Dead To Rights because they compensated for the awkward shooting angle by some edge: a locking targeting mechanism, and the bullet time mechanic, respectively. The saboteur does neither, relying on you to aim at your target yourself and not being very forgiving on a person with poor accuracy. Playing this game you will really feel lilke you're playing an odd lovechild of Grand Theft Auto IV and Assassin's Creed. Sean can deftly climb buildings with ease just like Altair, and the game pushes you in the direction of taking to the ceilings, when things get rough. The guns, open world mechanic and foul mouth of Sean are all too familiar of Niko Bellic and are lacking in originality (7/10) Presentation: The look and feel of the game is spectacular, with the washed out black and white setting for the occupied sections of the city. its an effective tool for displaying the dark, evil feeling of the nazi's stronghold in that area, and the semi-rewarding feeling the color rushing back to a sector when you liberate it. Disappointing
The atmosphere is neat. The music is great. Driving the cars all over France is fun too. You really do feel submerged in WWII France. The thing that got old quick was killing Nazis. And the things this guy is supposed to be able to do is unreal. He climbs buildings like a monkey. There are guard towers everywhere that never see him. He can sneak up on Nazi guards and kill them with ease. And the save option really sucks. You have to go back to a save point which is the beginning of the assignment. I gave it a better rating than it deserves because of it's good points. But that can't save it from getting monotonous and boring after 10 assignments. There are no tricks or methods to accomplish tasks. You sneak up then have to eventually jump into the fray. Just run jump , blast down doors, ... The atmosphere is neat. The music is great.
