Same theme as Harry Potter-wizards, dark forces
A friend knowing that I like the Harry Potter series gave me this book. I was looking to read something in the realm of magic and "Septimus Heap, Book One: Magyk" has the quality of magical theme, plot, and characters that I enjoy reading. The basic plot is of good versus evil and a "unique" child named Septimus who against all odds finds out who he really is---- a magical wizard, who is not an orphan as he was raised to think. Septimus is the seventh son of a seventh son (Septimus father is Silas who is also a seventh son) which means that he holds the power of being a natural wizard with talent that is beyond that of any other wizard. After reading the first chapter I sensed the full storyline and I thought "Oh, no, this is too similar to Harry Potter!" But then I discovered ... A friend knowing that I like the Harry Potter series gave me this book. But then I discovered the writer's colorful detailed language was full of unique characters which I enjoy reading. Some of the animal characters who have dialogues with the wizards have their own quirky sense of humor, strength, and play heroic roles. Oh, did I mentioned that there is also a princess named Jenna who does not find out that she is a princess till her tenth birthday? Jenna has been living with the Heap's who have guarded her secret quietly. On Jenna's birthday she also finds out that there is an assassin looking out to kill her. Overall the book did keep my interest such that I finished reading it in 2 days. The only negative is that I though of Harry Potter and sometimes made comparisons. Since this is a series I did find out that part 2 and 3 are available. I suggest you read and check it out yourself.

BETTER THAN HARRY POTTER, IF THAT IS POSSIBLE!
I am a 43 year old woman & I LOVED this book! I listened to it on Audio Book, and it was fantastic. The narrator does an INCREDIBLE job, all the characters have different voices, I could honestly not tell it was the same man reading all the characters. I honestly liked this book BETTER than Harry Potter! One thing I am upset about is the 2nd book, FLYTE, is not available on Audio Book, only printed book. I even emailed the publisher! The 3rd in the series will be released in 2007, I believe. Angie Sage is a very gifted writer.I am a 43 year old woman & I LOVED this book! I listened to it on Audio Book, and it was fantastic.
