About this product

Product Information

The Raiden Project features two vertically scrolling arcade shooters on one disc: Raiden and Raiden II. Raiden takes place in 2090, a time when Earth is under attack by hordes of alien "exobiological beings, a race of technologically advanced creatures from a distant galaxy." To combat this threat, the world's top scientists, engineers and otherwise brilliant people have replicated a super high-altitude fighter/bomber from the remains of a downed alien vessel. This new ship is called Raiden (aka Lightning Thunderbolt), and you are its pilot.

There are eight missions in Raiden: Tranquil Countryside, In the City, On the High Seas, Mysterious Ruins, Enemy's Earth Base, Floating Continent, Space Station and Enemy Space Battleship. As you fly over the various areas, you must fire at airborne and ground-based enemies, some of which release ammunition and weapons boosters when shot. Power-up items include Red Vulcan Bullets, Blue Lasers, Nuclear Missiles, Homing Missiles, Thermonuclear Bombs, Blue Sky Fairy (comes to your aid when fighter is destroyed) and Full Power (powers up current weapon to maximum level).

Raiden II, which takes place three years later, is similar to Raiden. It features all of the same weapons and power-ups, plus two advanced ones: Purple Plasma Lasers, which are guidable beams, and Cluster Bombs, which scatter over a large area, destroying everything in range. Missions in this game include: The Rural Zone, Go to Town, Enemy Naval Base, Ruins of the Ancients, Enemy Relay Base, Floating Crystal World, Enormous Galactic Battleship and The Final Target. The Raiden Project is for one or two players (simultaneously). The second player can join in at any time.

PS1 game arrived very quickly and as pictured. Trustworthy seller. If you re buying a PS1 game from this seller, possibly message them about paying a little extra for shipping to ensure your game comes inside a box instead of a bubble mailer. Takes one mistake by USPS for these types of game cases to get extra cracks during shipping... I feel lucky mine arrived with only the 2nd disc loose/askew inside the case! (Note: seller does offer free returns but why play with fire with vintage goods!)

Hi! My apologies about the 2nd disc being askew. Thanks for the positive feedback, however! And yes, I do always offer things like small flat rate boxes or whatever I can at the time. Thanks again for your business!

    Great retro shoot em up

I had this way back when the original PlayStation just came outb and somehow forgot what happened to it. It's fun shooter and great retro game.

  • Top critical review

Great graphics, nearly impossible game play

Even on the easiest setting it is nearly impossible to beat. Very unenjoyable. When I put a game on the easiest setting, I want it that way--easy--then I can build up to harder settings. What I don't want is nearly impossible on the easiest setting.

  • The Raiden Project (1995) for Sony Playstation

I love this game because you don't find many excellent top down shooters for home consoles much less at an arcade nowadays. Raiden and Raiden II, in my opinion, are some of the best vertical shooters made. These games have highly detailed levels, enemies, and boss's. In Raiden II when you shoot down an enemy, pieces crash to the ground and even damage or destroy buildings, thats very cool. It's attention to little details like that that make these games awesome. Also, the games have quick, fast pasted action that will keep you glue'd to the screen. Your weapons are really cool as well. You get three main guns that can be powered up three times. There's two special bomb attacks: one is like a tiny nuclear explosion which even has a shockwave. the second is a scatter ...

  • Grand Daddy shooter!

Classic shooter. Lots of nostalgia for people that played this game in the arcade. Recommend playing on a back compat PS3.
