    Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, "Notorious" weaves romance with espionage in a way that the two themes balance each other and keep the movie from being too ridiculously campy. After her father, a Nazi, is convicted of treason, Alicia Huberman (skillfully played by Ingrid Bergman) is recruited by government agent Devlin (Cary Grant, in another great performance) to go to South America and spy on a group of Nazis working out of Rio De Janeiro. The budding but tense relationship between Devlin and Alicia is halted when Alicia receives her assignment: to spy particularly on Alex Sebastian (Claude Rains), an old friend of her father's who once was and again falls in love with her.
