About this product

Product Information

A retelling of the fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood, Hiroyuki Okiura's debut feature, the Animé film JIN-ROH, is a tale of personal crisis amid intra-bureaucratic skulduggery. The film is set in an alternate reality in which Japan has emerged from World War II as a totalitarian society. The population riots, a group called the Sect creates havoc, and the armored Special Unit of the Capitol Police Organization (CAPO) plots to acquire more power. A soldier named Fuse, who was once one of the most formidable men in the Special Unit, agonizes over the death of a young girl who worked for the Sect and in doing so he becomes a neurotic mess intent on befriending the dead girl's sister.Okiura, who was the character designer of GHOST IN THE SHELL, creates an unforgettable image of the Special Unit soldier: a dehumanized, armored figure with feral red eyes. Okiura's drama unfolds against a backdrop of very complex crowd scenes; the scenes are even more impressive considering that most of the work was done using traditional cel-animation techniques. Mamoru Oshii (director of GHOST IN THE SHELL) scripted the project, based on his KENROU DENSETSU. Punctuated by brief moments of violence, JIN-ROH is a psychological drama in which nothing is as it seems.

  • Awesome plot, Awesome animation, Lousy pacing.

Although the pacing of the story is a bit slow, it does have an interesting story with a quite surprising plot twist at the end. This movie has a lot of violent scenes that include riots, cold-blooded executions and arson, which are quite well-detailed and brutal. The narrative incorporates politics, duty, terrorism, espionage and urban turmoil into the very well-crafted counterintelligence thematic. It also uses the original folk tale of Red Riding Hood (the wicked one) to bring in some symbolism and a more or less metaphorical twist into the movie. I really enjoyed Jin-Roh, especially at the end. I would recommend this as a great work of animation and also as a pretty interesting espionage movie.

  • Jin Roh The Wolf brigade

This is one of the best anime stories out there from political to mental and emotional. The pace could be better but the story that the public is going threw with such political unrest hits home for many people all oever the world. The action is top notch and definitly delivers the intrigue with the behind the seens political deals and decision making brings possible soltions as well mistakes for the characters who live or die from these decision. The mental trauma the leed character goes threw is very raw and emotional give you a good look at what some veterans might go threw. This is a great anime on somany levels definitly a must have for all anime fans.

  • Excellent Animation, Poor Execution

My father started watching this with me but soon left the room stating how "bored" he was. I stuck through it and watched the entire film hoping that it would at least have a bust-out ending, but unfortunately it did not. It's stated the the creators were that of GITS and Akira, but this show would be the ugly step-sister to those two titles only for the way the storyline was presented. They hinged far too much on realism when the basic theme of the story was a Japanese version of European fairy tales mixed with Japanese history. I place this movie as below average because it could have been sooooo much better. It would be a great show to watch if MST3K was at the bottom of the screen making it more bearable.

  • Brutal but beautiful movie, definitely worth having

I've been considering buying this movie to add to my collection of classic anime films for a long time, and only recently finally bought it. I wasn't disappointed. A tragic study of a super soldier's role in a convoluted civil war between the government and a group of revolutionaries, the story of his relationship with the young girl from the rebels' side woven with metaphors relating to the original Little Red Riding Hood fable. It's beautifully animated, with an intense, interesting story that pulls no emotional punches. Definitely an awesome addition to my collection.

  • jin-roh

one thing that is hard to find for me is a damn good anime with a gr8 story. all anime now a days seem the same, u know space stuff. but like ghost in the shell, this is a gritty down 2 eaarth movie that reall caught my eye. being that it was directed by the same director as ghost in the shell, really caught my interest right away...so i had 2 have it as part of my collection.
