About this product

Product Information

Discover the classic thriller that launched the #1 detective series of the past twenty-five years, now one of PBS's "100 Great American Reads" Alex Cross is a homicide detective with a Ph.D. in psychology. He works and lives in the ghettos of D. C. and looks like Muhammad Ali in his prime. He's a tough guy from a tough part of town who wears Harris Tweed jackets and likes to relax by banging out Gershwin tunes on his baby grand piano. But he also has two adorable kids of his own, and they are his own special vulnerabilities. Jezzie Flanagan is the first woman ever to hold the highly sensitive job as supervisor of the Secret Service in Washington. Blond, mysterious, seductive, she's got an outer shell that's as tough as it is beautiful. She rides her black BMW motorcycle at speeds of no less than 100 mph. What is she running from? What is her secret? Alex Cross and Jezzie Flanagan are about to have a forbidden love affair-at the worst possible time for both of them. Because Gary Soneji, who wants to commit the "crime of the century," is playing at the top of his game. Soneji has outsmarted the FBI, the Secret Service, and the police. Who will be his next victim? Gary Soneji is every parent's worst nightmare. He has become Alex Cross's nightmare. And now, reader, he's about to become yours.

    Way Too Gruesome

I just loved all 15 of Patterson's The Womens Murder Club, so thought I would love them all. Started collecting them and reading but soon found out they were much to much horrid details regarding the murders and mutilation of bodies....They were compelling but I didn't like the feelings I was left with when I put the book down. Sorry and I am sure there is a tremendous audience out there for him, I just can't handle it.

BACK OF BOX SAYS: ALONG CAME A SPIDER BEGINS WITH A DOUBLE kidnapping: the daughter of a famous hollywood actress and the young son of the u.s. secretary of the treasury. gary soneji is a muderous serial kidnapper who wants to commit the crime of the century: alex cross the brilliant homicide detective is pitted against him: jessie flanagan, the feamle supervisor of the secret service: all of them thown in together in one of the most unusualy supense trials ever. this was a very different book for me to read. i usually stick to paranormals and romance. i think this might be the first book i have ever read where it was told from the man's point of view. the woman's club is written by james also but the main character is a woman. while in these alex cross book's it's a man. i was ...

  • A Great Book!!!

I love this book! I recently began reading the Alex Cross series by James Patterson and have quickly become addicted! This is the first in a series of what has now become a fourteen book set. It really sets the tone for who Alex Cross and his family are and the fast-paced, suspenseful action that are a part of every book in this series so far! Don't plan on reading just a chapter or two at a time because once you start you won't be able put it down! The characters are very real, the emotions raw and the story moves at lightning pace. Gary Sonjei will chill you to the core! To sum it up: DO NOT miss this one!

  • Along Came a Spider

This is just another excellent spell binder by the magical writings of James Patterson. Since my daughter turned me on to him with First to die I just can't get enough of his books to read. I finished the entire Alex Cross series in just about a week. And the Woman's Murder Club in less time than that. So now I am trying to get my hands on everything else he has written that I haven't read. So if you want to get hooked like I did, start with "Along Came a Spider" but be sure that you have "Kiss the Girls" near by to pick up and start reading as soon as you can because you won't want to miss a single moment in the life of Dr. Detective Alex Cross.
