    Heart felt story

Chris McCandless was young adult that challenged by his dreams. He was intelligent and charming. People loved Chris. He had some trauma he was working out. I believe he lived the life he wanted to live. He had very few belongings. He basically gave away everything. He was not attached to material things. I think he lived on the edge of one side or the other. All or nothing kind of guy. Chris dies but the story lives on. It's a tale for the ages. Our book club read this book and we found We did not like the writing. It was a jumble mess. The author went into too much detail about characters he compared to Chris. It had no point in the story. The author rambled on about his own experiences and we were not a fan of this writer. Overall I would recommend it to a friend and the content is ...

  • Very interesting book

This book was an interesting read for me. I didn't think the author wrote too much about himself and his experiences, as some reviews complained about. Most of the book was about McCandless and how he starved to death in the wilds of Alaska. It was a shame he had to die, when he was (it was later found out) so close to help, but he wanted to make a statement, and be utterly on his own, live off the land. That didn't work out, of course, because, even though he was a very intelligent young man, he was foolish and ill-prepared to say the least, to take the huge risk he did. And he paid for it with his life. What a waste of a brilliant mind.

  • A compelling and tragic story of one person's seach for a life of meaning and adventure.

Many people have strong opinions about Chris McCandless regarding his life and the decisions he made that lead to his death. Some feel inspired, some angered, some bewildered, and some, like myself, a mixture of them all. Regardless of the opinion that you will come to by the end of this book I think you will come to the conclusion that it's a well written and tragically compelling story.

  • Interesting but challenging

I got into the book immediately. When I got to about page 105 the characters that were talked about changed frequently and it's a little hard to keep track of who's who. This fact has somewhat caused loss of interest.
