About this product

Product Information

"Breathtaking.... Crazy for the Storm will keep you up late into the night." -- Washington Post Book World Norman Olstead's New York Times bestselling memoir Crazy for the Storm is the story of the harrowing plane crash the author miraculously survived at age eleven, framed by the moving tale of his complicated relationship with his charismatic, adrenaline-addicted father. Destined to stand with other classic true stories of man against nature-- Into Thin Air and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer; Sebastian Junger's The Perfect Storm --it is a literary triumph that novelist Russell Banks ( Affliction ) calls, "A heart-stopping story beautifully told....Norman Olstead has written a book that may well be read for generations."

WONDERFUL book! Better than described, in just like new condition [not just good]. Packaged very carefully, shipped very securely. Great seller, would buy from again in a heartbeat! No communication occurred, but I imagine it would have been as good as the rest of their customer service. Very happy with purchase, thank you very much!

  • Tough survival story in the San Gabriel Mountains

I bought this book knowing the area of the crash site very well. The San Gabriel Mountains are a beautiful range. These mountains are known for having a rich Gold mining history with Gold mines everywhere, including one near the crash site. Since I've prospected for Gold up there, I know the terrain is very tough, steep, jagged, and full of Poison Oak. So reading little 11 year old Norman's story of sliding down the mountain after the plane crash to Mt. Badly in a snow storm was amazing. After seeing his dead Father and two others at the top of the mountain, with bad pain from a broken hand and frozen feet, little Norman found a way to survive.
