About this product

Product Information

The Linksys Wireless G WRT54G-TM 54 Mbps 4-port 10/100 wireless router is like three devices in one compact machine. The first function of the Linksys WRT54G-TM is as a wireless access point that allows users to connect either Wireless G or Wireless B devices to the networks. The second function of this Linksys model is in its built-in, four-port, full-duplex, 10/100 switch, allowing you to connect wired Ethernet devices to this Linksys router and up to four PCs or even daisy chain out to more hubs to create a network that is as big as you need it to be. The third major function of the Linksys Wireless G WRT54G-TM is that it allows the whole network to share a high-speed cable, or DSL, Internet connection, encrypting all wireless transmissions as it works to protect your data, security, and privacy. The Linksys Wireless G WRT54G-TM allows you to access the Internet via a wireless connection, broadcast at up to 54 Mbps, or to use the Internet wired through one of its four switched ports. You can also use this Linksys model router to share resources such as computers, printers, and files, and the security features will help you protect your data and privacy online while sharing resources. The security features of the Linksys Wireless G WRT54G-TM include WPA2 security, a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall, and NAT technology. Configuration of this Linksys router model is easy using the provided browser-based utility. The front panel of the Linksys router has a series of flashing buttons, including the SecureEasySetup button, which lights up and stays orange while the router is powered on. Once the router has generated the SSID and WPA Personal key, the Cisco logo on the front of the Linksys router will stop flashing and turn white. There are also flashing LED lights for Power, DMZ to indicate that DMZ function is enabled, WLAN when the wireless feature is enabled, colored LEDs to correspond with the numbered ports on the router’s back panel, and a light for Internet LED when there is a connection being made through an Internet port. The back panel features a reset button to reset factory settings, an Internet port, four Ethernet ports to connect the router to PCs, and a power port for the power adapter. Encryption is enabled for WPA/WPA2 or WEP encryption settings on this Linksys Wireless G WRT54G-TM router, and you can set password protection and change your Service Set Identifier (SSID) to increase security. Advanced configuration of this Linksys model router can be set up in the router’s web-based utility, including DHCP or Static IP Internet connection and router IP address and subnet mask settings. The Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) feature allows you to assign a fixed host and domain name to a dynamic Internet IP address, which is useful when you’re hosting your own website, FTP server, or other server behind the router. The Linksys WRT54G-TM 54 Mbps port 10-100 wireless G router is a great device if you want a three-in-one functional router that works as a wireless access point, as a wired four-port switch, and also as a network sharing device.

Perfect for Tomato Software which requires more flash memory than the WRT54GL

This is the best kept secret of the old WRT54G series. You can install a modern version of the Tomato Shibby firmware with this hardware without losing features - something the WRT54GL and older WRT54G series can't do. I'm just thrilled with the purchase. Even though it's only wireless G - the stability and range (especially if you add larger antennas) are fantastic.

  • The cream of the crop.

For advanced users: The WRT54G-TM is in my opinion the best platform for running DDWRT. With DDWRT it can be configured as a repeater, an AP, a router/gateway, VPN, there are really too many features to list here. If you plan on having large amounts of traffic on your network the 32MB of ram is a great feature vs. the 8 or 16MB of most other WRT series routers. Also with a large 8MB flash memory you have plenty of space for flashing any compatible firmware you can find. The 200mhz chip can be overclocked, though I have not done so, nor have I felt the need to do so as it is always responsive. I would recommend this for small business networks or advanced home networks. I now own 3 TMs and maintain a network with on average between 10 and 25 wireless clients (I sell internet access in my ...

  • Linksys WRT54G-TM Wireless Router

So when I got the chance, I dove into converting my own router. After a relatively simple firmware upgrade, you can boost your wireless signal, prioritize what programs get your precious bandwidth, and do lots of other simple or potentially much more complicated things to improve your computing experience. The best feature is the that you can use open source DD-WRT Mega firmware. You need to read all the steps necessary, so you don't end up turning your new router into a brick. You can turn a $40 to $70 router into a $600 router. No it's not an N router but after you upgrade this router it is very stable and easy to use. Or you can buy it already upgraded from one of many on E-bay. Good Luck.

  • Not the newest, but a solid performer

I bought the WRT54G-TM knowing what to do with it: flash it with non-stock firmware. While a warranty voider right there, with the stock firmware this router is like a turbo engine where you just use it to cruise lightly around the block. While not the newest Gigabit or Wireless-N device, for those of us who do not need such features, this device is a wise decision. I unleashed the monster and put DD-WRT in it and I don't regret it one bit. Plenty of room for extra features and works like a charm. OpenWRT is also possible on it, and I am inclined, since I think that "set it for what you use it" is the best and knowing Linux commandline this would be natural for me. This device gives me the leverage to do so and then some. Without configuring any settings other than passwords, IP ranges ...

  • The best wireless router you can buy for your house.

These routers, the WRT54G-TM's, are the best routers available for your home. You might say "Why would i want that T-Mobile crap on my wireless router, i don't even use T-Mobile." The answer is simple: build quality. While you may not be able to tell the difference between these routers, and your everyday WRT54G, there is a HUGE difference on the inside. The WRT54G-TM is built with 32 MB of RAM inside to buffer your traffic going out to the Internet. The WRT54G v8 router has a lowly 8 MB of RAM. So what's the difference? Speed. Stability. A user of a TM could easily open 25 random browser windows simultaneously, while a v8 user would likely crash their router with 10. (Owning both, i can assure you this is the case.) Technology enthusiasts love the TM. It is one of the best routers for ...
