About this product

Product Information

From Sam Raimi's Ghost House Underground comes this tale of Jake Sawyer (Jason Behr of THE GRUDGE and D-WAR), a young artist who becomes obsessed with learning tatau, the Samoan tradition of tattooing, and gets more than he bargained for. After finding a mysterious ancient tattooing tool at an expo in Singapore, Jake unwittingly releases a vicious spirit. Now he must struggle to save his new love Sina (Mia Blake) and his own soul in this terrifying yarn located in the realm of Western mysticism. Co-penned by Jonathan King, writer-director of the berserk horror-comedy hit BLACK SHEEP (2006), THE TATTOOIST is a great time for any horror fan.

  • I'm a Background Fan of Tattoos and This Film.

For the most part, the film worked for me as an entertaining rendition of a mystical legacy brought about by the director's and writer's views on there Samoan tradition of tatau (the root of most tattooing). After re-watching the film once again with director Peter Burger and the main actor Jason Behr, I had a more distinctive education about how the film unfolds and why the editing was so important. Since this film was a collaborated joint venture between New Zealand and Singapore, the producers had to get the permission from film institutes before progressing. As we soon find out, the story-line is not just some average lone hacker film much like "The Dentist", but actually involves a style more in line with the backdrop being like "A Stir of Echos" where the evil was perpetrated on ...

  • I Am Soo Glad

I didn't see this movie prior to my getting my first tattoo..if I had I would not have gotten the other 4..This is a great film although it is a bit gory in some scenes..not something you want to watch while eating! What happens when a young Man obsessed with tattoos steals a tattau instrument which has an angry spirit attached..answer alot of people suffer and die before the truth comes out..Viewer will love the major twist at the end of this scary film..put the kiddies to bed before viewing this and don't let anyone under the age of 17 see this film..I give this film 5 out of 5 bars!!

  • kept me guessing

stortyline was great with a lot of research put into it gave me a different perspective to the art and how it originated lots of suspense and i enjoyed every minute of the story

  • Alot of Jason Behr Not Alot of Scare

I am a huge Jason Behr fan and thought I would try this movie out after reading the reviews. It was pretty good and Jason Behr delievered his usual stoic performance. The concept was different and the plot was decent. Some of the gore scenes were good but not overly gory. Not a bad movie, but not one I would watch more than once.

  • Interesting and Different

Unlike some reviewers I rather enjoyed this title. It is based around the culture and traditions found in New Zealand and Samoa. Since I am from Hawaii I easily connected with the film and it's undertone. I recommend it as at least a rental just to view it once and come up with your own conclusion. I wouldn't really categorize it as a Horror flick though. More like suspense/thriller type of a movie.
