Synopsis
Embrace diversity with Dr. Seuss and the Sneetches in this collection of stories about acceptance The Sneetches got really quite smart on that day, The day they decided that Sneetches are Sneetches And no kind of Sneetch is the best of the beaches. The story of the Star-Belly Sneetches and their starless friends is a perfect guide for kids growing up in today's multicultural world. This classic is joined by equally entertaining tales: "The Zax," a humorous take on the art of compromise; "Too Many Daves," which shows kids that sometimes standing out is better than blending in; and "What Was I Scared Of?," which demonstrates how empathy can transform a stranger into a friend. In these four energetic stories, Dr. Seuss challenges the idea that we have to look the same or be the same to find common ground. Full of Dr. Seuss's signature rhymes and lively humor, this story collection is a must-have for any reader, young or old. "The Zax" When a North-Going Zax encounters a South-Going Zax traveling in the opposite direction, will their refusal to budge keep them both from going anywhere ? "Too Many Daves" A mother who names all twenty-three of her sons "Dave" learns too late that a little individuality is a good thing! "What Was I Scared Of?" This delightfully silly story about a spooky pair of empty green pants delivers an important message about fear and tolerance. Four cute stories, but the last one "What was I Scared of," is by far, one of my favorite stories ever!

I recently learned that the author was originally very racist & used to draw political cartoons. At some point in his life he had a change of heart. That is when he became Dr. Suess & set out to teach children how to end the cycle of bigotry. "Sneeches" is a simplified straightforward example of this, but my favorite by far, is the last of the four "What Was I Scared of." It's not as well known, as many of his other stories and its really a shame. It I think it's a great lesson that I wish more adults could learn. Everytime I get to the end, I have a hard time saying the words because I get choked up. I have bought many copies to give as gifts.

    • Exciting read!

Great book! The pictures are colorful and the characters are fun to look at. Children will have a great time looking at these crazy looking pictures. I think they'll love them. Hearing the stories will keep the kiddos interested. Dr. Sues always has great books.

    • Very Seuss-y

I lost the copy I read to my sons when they were young so had to get another copy so I could remember all 23 Daves. :) Fun short stories and good life lessons. Classic Seuss.
