Baking Cups & Cupcake Liners
No matter whether you bake chocolate, white, carrot, or lemon cupcakes, you still need a basic set of supplies in order to do your baking. Baking cups and cupcake liners come in a number of different sizes and are made from a number of different materials.
What kind of cupcake liners are there?Cupcake liners run the gamut. Most often people will think of the standard cupcake wrappers. It’s possible to buy mini cupcake liners, standard cupcake liners, and large baking cups for jumbo cupcakes.
Additionally, baking cups come in different materials. You can buy cupcake liners made from paper, foil, or even silicone. Each serves a different function.
How do you use silicone baking cups?Silicone baking cups and muffin “tins” offer the home baker a number of advantages. They’re soft and pliable and can replace the traditional paper cupcake wrappers. To use them, be sure to spray the silicone muffin pan with the cooking spray. Once you prep the baking cups, pour in the cake batter and follow the cooking instructions for your cakes.
Because silicone baking cups are pliable, it’s easier to remove muffins and cupcakes from the cupcake liners when you’re ready to eat them. Just wash them in warm, soapy water when you’re done.
Your batter will rise as it cooks, so it’s best to fill your cupcake wrappers only about two-thirds of the way full. Leave a little room at the top for the batter to rise. The same rule applies for your large baking cups.
How do you use paper baking cups? Before baking, you should separate the paper baking cups from one another. It makes them easier to use. Once you’ve done this, you can then put the cupcake liners in the muffin tin. It’s useful to remember that if you’re using cupcake liners, you will not need to grease the muffin tin as the baking cups prevent the cupcake batter from sticking to the pan.
Ideally, each of the cupcake wrappers should be filled up about 2/3 of the way from the top. This gives the batter room to rise as it cooks. After you’ve filled the baking cups with the batter, place them in the oven to bake. Once the cupcakes are done, you’ll want to allow them to cool for a bit before you frost them. It isn’t necessary to remove the baking wrappers from the cupcakes when you frost them. The person eating the cupcake can remove the cupcake wrapper when he/ she is ready to eat the dessert.
