Excellent Quality and Super Sharp
I’ve always been a fan of Benchmade, Kershaw, Zero Tolerance, and higher end knives, such as Chris Reeve knives, but never owned a Spyderco for whatever reason. The Para 3 was my first, and I’ve purchased 4 other Spyderco’s since. The Maxamet steel stays super sharp and is just makes for an impressive edge in a blade. Current EDC blade
I have always loved Spyderco, in particular the Military and Paramilitary models. The Para 3 in Maxamet steel is probably the most versatile EDC choice. It fits perfectly into the Paramilitary lineup and, for me, the size is just perfect for EDC. This is my first Maxamet steel blade and so far I am very impressed! I have not sharpened it yet, but the edge is holding exceptionally well. I own a lot of knives and am constantly changing out my EDC, but for now, the Para 3 is the knife I reach for most. Keep it oiled!
The Maxamet blade steel has a wonderful cutting edge and the edge retention has been so good that I don't have any experience trying to sharpen it yet. It isn't any kind of stainless, so keep it oiled, otherwise it will develop small rust spots fast. If corrosion is any kind of concern, or you just can't be bothered to oil it somewhat regularly, get a different steel. Other than that, the action and locking mechanism have been great. Maxamet Para 3 is My Favorite!
I thought I loved the PM2 the most. I resisted buying the Para 3 for years, having never actually held one. I bought a Maxamet Para 3 and now it's the only knife I carry, replacing my S30 PM2 and G10 Dragonfly for edc duties. Great knife and comes in various styles.
I like the Para 3 the most out of Spyderco's offerings. For my needs, it strikes just the right balance of size and functionality to be an excellent EDC knife. I chose it in Maximet because I don't want to sharpen it often, and will not be treating it roughly. If you need an easier to sharpen steel, it is available in other steels, such as SPY 27.
