The recorder was advertised as "tested working". I put batteries in it and the lights came on and the spindles moved. But when an actual tape was inserted (I tried several) it bogged down and played haltingly. It also would not fast forward or rewind. I don't see how the advertised testing could possibly had included testing with an actual tape to determine if the unit was actually functional. Reading up on old recorders like this pointed to likely problems with a stretched and slipping drive belt.Upon partial disassembly of the unit, I could see that the belt was stretched and very "floppy". I have ordered a replacement belt and will try to get it working. I only undertook the self-repair as the listing stated "No returns".
