because you might have more than one gun
the pouch is a one piece, injection molded affair, with bellowed sides which expand to accommodate a wide variety of pistol magazines. Single stack, .22 caliber magazines, or mouse gun magazines (single stack .32 or .380ACP) will be a little floppy in there, but that's not what the pouch is designed for. It's for holding mid to full size, defensive caliber, pistol magazines, and if that's what you have, then this will work. I tried it with Glock, Walther, Colt, and Beretta magazines. Single stack magazines don't fit as well as double stacked mags, but still remain secure enough for carry. The only feature I'm not fond of is that the pouch is secured to your belt via a belt loop, rather than a clip. If having to thread your belt through the pouch while putting your pants on doesn't bother you, then this is precisely what the doctor ordered. Otherwise, order the single mag pouch from Blackhawk. Sub compact magazines, Glock 26's and the like, will seat a little too deeply for a smooth reload, but if you carry a subcompact, you really ought to be carrying a mid sized magazine as your reload, anyway. Safariland has produced an excellent choice for those who carry different pistols for different occasions, without the burden of needing different skill sets because no two pieces of gear are the same
