The Asus Maximus V Formula is a motherboard designed with gaming performance in mind. It carries the Republic of Gamers branding and is based on the Intel Z77 chipset. The board uses the Intel 1155 socket, which means that it supports 3rd- and 2nd-gen Core i7, i5, and i3 processors. The form factor is ATX, which means it is designed for full-size desktop PCs, and it measures 14.6 by 3.9 by 11.6 inches.This board can take advantage of the integrated graphics in a CPU. As a ROG board, however, there’s also ample support for discrete graphics. Expansion ports include three PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16, one PCIe 2.0 x4, three PCIe 2.0 x1, and one mini-PCIe 2.0 x1. These slots are compatible with multiple graphics card configurations via NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX and 3-Way CrossFireX. Depending on the graphics card count, the PCIe will run at x16, x8/x8, or x8/x4/x4. This product also features LucidLogix Virtu MVP Technology. Using Virtu, your system can disable GPUs and fall back to the iGPU during periods when the additional processing power isn’t required. These Asus motherboards also have onboard audio hardware in the form of SupremeFX IV. This can deliver 7.1-channel high-definition audio.Overclocking is an important aspect of the ROG name, and the Asus Maximus V Formula provides tools to maximize processor performance for gaming and other intensive activities. This begins with a feature-rich UEFI BIOS that has advanced capabilities like GPU.DIMM Post and BIOS Print. ROG Connect facilitates linking to another device so that you can perform OC diagnostics on a separate machine. Extreme Engine Digi+ II means eight-phase CPU power design and two-phase memory power design. Other features include an Extreme OC kit, an Extreme Tweaker, Loadline Calibration, and OC protection in the form of CPU Parameter Recall.The Asus Maximus V Formula motherboard supports non-ECC, un-buffered memory. There are four DIMM slots, which allows 32 GB overall with a 64-bit OS. DDR3 runs at between 1066 and 1600 MHz by default, but with XMP, you can overclock to as high as 2800 MHz. In accordance with the Z77 spec, the board features two 6GB/s and two 3GB/s SATA connections as well as eSATA and mini-SATA headers. The board also has an ASMedia controller that provides four additional SATA II connections.Network your PC with wired Ethernet via an Intel Gigabit LAN controller that you access from the rear panel. This product also features six USB 3.0 and eight USB 2.0 ports. Four of each USB type are accessible from the rear panel. The others are mid-board headers used for USB connections on the case. The rear panel also features an eSATA port, optical S/PDIF in and out, and five audio jacks.The Asus Maximus V Formula motherboard comes with everything you need to install it in your PC. In addition to an owner’s manual and I/O panel, accessories include six Serial ATA cables, an SLI bridge, a Q-connector, and more. This product also includes an optional mPCIe combo card. Installed, this card provides you Bluetooth 4.0/3.0+HS connectivity as well as dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
