    Series 3 HD TIVO... What TIVO was meant to be from the Start

    Need a Tivo upgrade?? Start here first. with upgraded harddrives in them 1TB plus and the option to add external storage. This is what Tivo was meant to be. with Dual tuners OTA HD TV is a great option if you live close to HD stations and the ability to record 2 shows and watch a third is a big plus. They are light-years ahead of the series 1-2 models but still have the familiar TiVo interface that you know so well. Reasonable priced even with Lifetime service don't pass one up when you find a taken care of one for sale

    Old boxes that are good, but unsupported by TiVo

    These boxes are out of support from TiVo. This particular one came in functional shape, but I bought it for parts to keep my lifetime support box (bought in 2009) running (it's power supply failed). In some ways these series 3 boxes do more than the current Bolt boxes: both OTA and Cable.

    HD quality picture is clear and sharp! (Depends on service) Can receive Cable, OTA or get both. No longer need the use of a cable box (uses 2 Cable Cards or a M Card). Can record two shows and watch another recorded show at the same time. Will work with series 2 TiVo.

    Exclusive feature.

    There is a feature that most people don't use and most people don't even know about, which is the ability to use the 1X fast forward and still see close captioning. This is invaluable when you want to see what's being said but don't want to slog through in real time. I use this feature for judge's comments and parts of my soap opera. Tivo stopped providing this feature in ALL subsequent models and I will continue using this ancient Series 3 model for as long as they still exist.

    Solved my TiVo power supply problem

    My TiVo died suddenly - no light, etc. TiVo said a flashing light would indicate a hard drive issue and no light at all could be a power supply issue. They recommended a supplier who would replace and install the power supply for a premium price. I took a chance on this vendor and the power supply at half the price and am very pleased. Of course, it remains to be seen how long it will last, but it's been working for at least a couple of weeks now and I expect that to continue for a reasonable time.
