This is a replacement for the standard Oly lens on the micro-4/3s cameras, basically the same range but faster. It's bigger(faster), only downside besides that is that the autofocus isn't fast. This seems to be a case with all of these older 4/3s lenses adapted to micro 4/3s cameras. But is as fast and it's much cheaper than current offerings with the same speed. Image quality seems to be quite good, might have some fall off at the edges wide open, but acceptable. Item showed a little use but was in great condition with no scratches or dents and works smoothly.

It's a heavy lens, and it's a little long after you add in the required 4/3 to M4T adapter, but the speed and heavy-duty construction make the size and weight acceptable. The only true competitor is the newer Olympus 12-40mm f:/2.8, which is only 2 oz lighter, 1 stop faster, and costs 3x as much. My first thought after picking it up was that it's a chonk of a lens. When combined with the 4/3-M4T active adapter it weighs over a full pound, so those with noodle-arms should invest in a really nice, supportive camera strap. it might not sound like a lot, but after toting it around for five or six hours, it's noticeable. The little plastic 14-42mm kit lens feels like a feather, by comparison. Performance when attached to a M4T camera is a mixed bag. As far as I know, the only M4T body that can run this lens as fast as a 4/3 body is the Olympus E-M1 and even then, focusing in dark situations is spotty. WIth a different body that's incapable of contrast-detect autofocus, the indoor perfomance might be frustrating. On the positive side, the heavy-duty construction and weather sealing means I don't have to worry if I'm outside when the weather turns bad. I'm not prone to babying my gear, so this is a very good thing to me. The zoom range is ideal for day trips when you're not sure where you're going and just want to bring along one multi-purpose lens. 14mm will get most of a room in-frame, and 54mm is a good length for portraits on a M4T body. The Olympus 18-180mm will reach further, but I don't often need that sort of zoom and the 14-54's extra 4mm at the wide end is unexpectedly useful. Optically, this lens is fine. Not quite as sharp or as fast as a prime lens but the difference, especially when stopped down by a stop or two, is small enough that 90% of the time, it's good enough. In short, IF you don't mind the size and weight, and IF you don't mind focus-by-wire, this might be a good choice for you. Read full review

I purchased the 14-54 lens as an upgrade to my camera kit. Other lenses that I use include the 14-42, 17.5-45, 40-150 and the 70-300, all being good lenses of standard build/grade. The 14-54 offers "weatherproof" construction that can stand up to splashes and dust. Living in a sea coast environment, I bought an E-1 for the same weatherproof qualities, hoping to overcome my reluctance to expose my other lenses(and my e-410) to beach sand, crashing waves, etc. I am not overly impressed by the actual improvement of image quality, compared to both the 14-42 and the 17.5-45. This lens is brighter/quicker, however. It's substantially bigger/heavier, as well. I would recommend the purchase of this lens, but caution that the upgraded performance may relate mostly to it's better construction features.Read full review
Well... purchased it to use with an adapter on an Olympus PEN E-PL2. Autofocus is very slow (still faster than my manual focus) but picture quality is great. This is also a brighter lens than the native micro four thirds, and this lens coupled with a 42-150mm provide an interrupted 14-150mm with F2.8-4.5 which becomes handy and boosts low light performance. Definitely it is not the best option for taking pictures of sports and kids but for landscape definitely worth looking at. When resorting to AF is needed, it is pretty good. It is smooth and responsive, but is is kind of hard to get away with it without an EVF or a really good Manual Focus Assist like Focus peaking. For the price, (got both lenses under $60 each) it is great value.
Great for outdoor photography, however for indoor my e-500 was slow on focusing. I got this lens to replace my 14-45mm. After playing with the 14-54mm a bit I can tell you that there is a significant improvement is the sharpness. Also, with indoor photography the extra /f helps. My next attempt to improve the focusing is the FL-36 or FL-50. Both of those flashes have Auto Photo assist. I got this lenses for half the price of when it came out to the market. At the price range that this is sold now I think it’s a good price, I don’t think it’s work more – providing that the new lenses have more bells. If you don’t need the zoom I would recommend going for a prime with low /f, for indoor photography.
Excellent image quality. Larger than MFT lenses but not excesive. Convenient focus range. 18 mm at the low end is longer than today's standard, i.e. 12mm on MFT. I like this limitation as it prevents face distrortion,l egg heads, when placed in the corner of the frame. Great for chasing kids around but not for fast action. AF needs phase detection (I have an OMD-EM1). Works OK but not as fast as native MFT lenses like 12-40/2.8. All in all, it's a good buy.

If you are looking for a "no compromise" wide angle to medium telephoto 4/3 lens, this is what you want. Nicely fast lens: f2.8-3.5 Excellent optics, very sharp even wide open (with barely noticeable fall off in the corners at f2.8. Excellent construction, dust and splash proof and still quite light. Round aperture of the diaphragm, wich gives you a much better "bokeh" than the most common polygonal aperture diaphragms out there. Hell of a lot cheaper than the fabled 12-60 and still covering over 80% of the zoom range of its big brother. The zoom range covers the 24-36 equivalent of 28mm to 108mm, which mean that most people can probably use it as their main lens, for day to day pictures, portrait, landscape, family, holidays... Minimum focusing being at 22cm, it even can be used for proxy photography (not really macro though, but close-up is fine) To put it simply: the best thing I bought in 2010, period. And of course, any advice being only worth what the giver can propose, if you want to see what my standards are in "picture quality", feel free to have a look here: http://www.floredefrance.com/query.asp?galerie=1Read full review
Very sharp zoom lens. Covers useful focal lenghts 14-54mm (28-108mm 35mm equivalent). A step above the cheaper 14-42mm. F2.8 at 14mm gives you better picture opportunities even when light is not perfect. Great construction quality, and is weather sealed, meaning you can use it in heavy rain too! Works great with my E-1, beautiful color rendition. They are still a bit pricey, but worth every penny if you find one in good shape.
This is a great little lens at a very fare price. There are better lens out there but are priced 3 times as much. For the moeny there is nothing by any company that can touch it. I have a canon 50D with a 15-85MM lens and a Olympus E520 using the 14-54MM I find I use the Olympus most of the time and am thinking about selling the Canon outfit. The pictures are clean and sharp and the the lens is light and easy to carry all day.
Simply one of the best zoom lenses ever built. This lens delivers edge-to-edge sharpness. Excellent designed delivering outstanding color reproduction. With f2.8 provides crisp and clear viewfinder image. Has 7 blades, 15 elements in 11 groups and 3 , yes 3 aspherical elements. Dust/Splash proof construction, very light, a real pleasure to use. Definitely one of the best lenses I have ever had. Over $475 dls when initially introduced to the market, this sharp and fast lens meets most photographic needs. AS SUMMARY : THIS IS A TRULY REMARKABLE HIGH QUALITY ZOOM LENS !!! My recognition and thanks for OLYMPUS for designing and producing this very excellent zoom lens !!!
