This game is classic. A much have for any owner of a Nintendo Entertainment System. This game had great sound, was very colorful and eye popping, and had an excellent control style. It featured Mario as the referee and a lot of hilarious opponents. You had the password screen that featured Little Mac in his pink training suit and your trainer riding alongside on his bicycle. I don't know what his name was in the game, but in my house we always called him Carl Winslow from Family Matters. Haha. A lot of this game is just getting all the hints as to when and which way and how an opponent is going to punch you. A slight move of the arms or twitch of the eyebrows is all we're talkikng about here. If you don't get this down, you wont get very far in this game. Also having basic hand eye coordination is huge too. The opponents atart off ridiculously easy and progress to ridiculously hard. I always has a hard time with Bald Bull and Soda Popinki. Your timing has to be right on with these opponents, especially Bald Bull when he charges you. (Low punch at the last second right in the stomach). Every 3rd fight you'll get a password, (after the title bout). I've never earned my way all the way to Mr. Dream, Mike Tyson though I've used the code to get to him and I've never beat him. He is ridiculously hard to beat. He punches fast, he's hard to time, and one punch will take your ass out. It takes practice... This games title was changed from Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! to just Punch Out!! after the rape charges, and beating up his wife. Hard to beleive a guy like that was a sports start able to get sponsored in a video game at all. Was also before the scary idiotic tatoo he got on his face and before he would bite pieces of his opponents ear off. I'm sure that alone would have caused Nintendo not to even come close. I still think it's worth it to have the original version of this game. Any true collector would want the original. I've read that this game is quite fun with the Power Glove, though it doesn't work well with other games, but you have that going for you as well. This is a very fun classic vintage video game though, it's a lot of fun to play, every true gamer should play this game! What are you waiting for, pick on up today!Read full review
Due to a copyright issue, the latest versions of this game are featuring "Mr. Dream" instead of Mike Tyson. But to someone who grew up in the 80s when Tyson was in his prime, there's really no substitute for the original, is there? I have the other version too, and it just feels wrong, fighting a whited-up version of Tyson in the last match. If you still have your NES, and a tube TV, buy a copy of this, before they go up any more. The only way to have reaction time fast enough to beat Tyson/Mr. Dream is to have the original hardware. Otherwise, there's lag introduced by the modern TVs, not to mention some by the emulation platform.

The memorise are flooding back to me when I play this game. I loved it then and still love it. The only tiny down side and I can't remember this if it happened when I was a kid is that the game gets stuck or freezes sometimes when I play. Not in the same place but different places which is really annoying but other then that, I can't say anything bad.

Still a fave 5 for me, even after 20 years! It's one of the few reasons to get an NES console, as it is one of the few NES games that are not enhanced on SNES & it is also not on any other system. Graphics, although 8 bit, are on par with a SNES game! Sound is not quite as good as SNES, but close! Gameplay & animations in this game are better than any other NES & that is what make this game so addictive! Its game levels start off super easy & wind up super hard at the end, which are trademarks of NES/SNES games & this feature also allows any gamer to be apart of the fun! Mike Tyson even looks alot like himself, which I must say, no other NES game even comes close. You don't even have to be a boxing fan at all to enjoy it and maybe that's why its so popular among others! You'll have to battle fighters with super punches, combos, tricky punches, KO punches, & you'll have to beat them with only 5 punches(only 1 super punch) in your arsenal. It has sort of a Rocky feel to it, as you, Little Mac, are much, much smaller than the men you have to fight. Favorite games: 1. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2(Dreamcast) 2. Samurai Showdown 2(either Arcade and Neo Geo versions) 3. Sonic Adventures (Dreamcast) 4. Mortal Kombat Trilogy or Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3(I haven't played this game in such a long time that I have forgotten the exact name; the one with all the characters on PS1) 5. Mike Tyson Punchout(the one with Mike in it) 6. Killer Instinct(SNES) 7. Ms. PacMan(Arcade, SNES & later) 8. Super Mario Allstars(SNES)/Super Mario 3(NES) 9. Super Mario World 10. Sonic & Knuckles(Sega) 11. Cruis'n USA(Arcade) 12. Tetris(SNES & later) Keys to beating Tyson: Get past the 1st round by quickly dodging his fast KO uppercuts & hitting him twice. After about 1:30, he will start to throw his med. speed jabs; dodge them & hit him twice as before. Strategy: you might decide to get him close & not knock him down in the first round; this will make it easier to TKO in the 2nd. In the 2nd, you want to dodge his med. jabs & hit him whenever he misses; use punches to try & get pink occasionally, as he is even more predictable when you are pink. DO NOT TRY THIS IN ROUND 1 & AGAINST ANY OTHER FIGHTER. He will throw a med. speed jab & two fast, not KO uppercuts; he does the same thing everytime you get pink in the 2nd. Dodge these, until you change back & tag him everytime he misses. Also, when he continually blinks his eyes, if you time the punch right, then you'll knock him down; if not, you will get a star & you must be ready to block. You can land a star either as he misses a jab or as you are tagging him after any 2nd uppercut. In the 3rd, his super unpredictability means that you'll have to be very good to make it out of this round; however, at the starting gate, when he goes down, & when you go down, he will IMEDIATELY throw a punch or series of punches. Dodge & tag him. If you get pink in the third round, don't panic; he'll do the same thing he did in round two; however, he is just way too unpredictable to use this as a tactic now! He also has this combo, which varies at times, that goes something like this: JAB, JAB, PAUSE, FAST UPPERCUTS(may use 1, 2, or 3 & either pause between them or speed up). To win, gain 5,000 pts. or TKO him. 4 times down & you're out! It takes way more speed and timing to beat Tyson than anyone else & if you don't have them, you don't have any chance to beat him, period. So practice & concentrate!Read full review

Classic game, well worth buying. For being an old game with few controls and movements, it's very challenging to get to and beat Iron Mike. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes boxing, and Mike Tyson..^^
