I bought it because I needed a printer that could print 10x13 envelopes in color, that was not too expensive, and that worked under vista, which my hp does not. I don't particularly like or dislike it, although it was failing to cooperate when I tried to print some regular letter envelopes last week. I currently have 9 printers, 7 of which are connected up to 2 different computers, and they serve different functions. I am not wild about any of them, but they do what I need done. This Epson does make a nice quality print, and if all I was doing was occasional color prints, and I needed the wide format capability and the vista compatability, it might serve as my primary printer. However, I print large quantities of b&w on my laser printers for my business, and this printer would not be cost effective for that, or for printing the color sheets I do for a small publication I am involved with - it is too slow for large quantities.Read full review
I purchsaed this unit as an upgrade to my Epson r380. I wanted to be able to print larger (up to 13") without the higher cost of the higher end units. This unit has fit my needs perfectly. Print speed doesn't really affect me, but I know it is not the fastest. I only use it for the big prints and use another printer for smaller stuff. I did notice that the R1400 prints darker than my R380. Since I do not have calibration software, I just try to eyeball it before printing to get it close. Ink is around $40 on ebay from vendors and then I bring my 6 used cartridges to Staples for $18 in rewards. So at the end I am looking at about $22 per set of cartridges...which isn't too bad. This is a nice printer to print from home for friends and family. If you want professional prints, I would recommend sending the images out to the pros.Read full review
Great image printer for a 6 color machine. 1.5 picoliter droplets insures that you will get great gradations. I have two of these. One for Color imaging and the other converted to an all black image printer utilizing 5 black ink in three shades and one cool tone and warm tone black. The 6 position uses a gloss optimizer for gloss and luster papers. This is a wonderfull printer that is easily converted to 3rd party refillable and CISS.
When purchasing a printer I needed to buy one that would do a little larger prints while still being in the price range of a desktop printer. The Epson 1400 prints 13x17 which is the largest size I needed. I also needed an Epson because they accept the CIS (continual ink system) which allows me to save money on ink when I print in higher volume. The Epson 1400 is easy to print with and comes with a cartridge which lets you print directly on CD's and DVD's. While I don't have much need for that my kids thought is was great. The programs and printer is easy to use and there was no learning curve. The only drawback to the printer was when I needed to use special paper I had to feed it in one at a time. I will be looking for another printer in the next few months and will probably buy the same Epson 1400 due to price, print quality, and ease of use.Read full review
I bought this printer for use in my home bakery. lthoughink s costly (edible ink), the printer is a bargain. Very reasonably priced. It does print large photos as well as iron ons and lots of extras. The only con woud b it's size. It s huge! BUT considering the fact that it is a large format printer, guess you have to expect that:) Overall, great buy for the money and works well!
