This camera has a lot of "bang for the buck".. nice features, great battery life, huge LCD display, red eye reduction actually works... My biggest complaint is the placement of the lens on the far left corner, instead of the center... It is very easy to get a finger in the way of the lense (hence in the corner of your photos), especailly being such a compact camera- there is just plain not a lot to hold on to.... This becomes a problem when you hand off the camera to someone unfamiliar (you usually get their finger as a "capture the moment" as well...) The scroll wheel on the S50 is much more "user friendly" the the "touchy" joystick on my Nikon Coolpix S4... Over-all, very nice little COMPACT P&S... (built a lot more rugged than the Nikon "L-Series"...)I like the Satin Black Color... very hip....Read full review
Well if you could keep the side from falling off camera I'd give it an A+A+A+A+ because its a great camera, the two I have bought, I have fixed both of them into almost new cameras, now that I have fixed them, I know that they will hold together..I got a tripod the other day and turned out all the lights, and turned on the one little display light over my tony stewart motorcycle and got a perfect evening shot of it..this camera can do so much, its hard to explain everything, its everybit worth $250.00 that it retails for..I have no dislikes, I figured out how to save battery life..( get a flash sd card reader ) take sd card out of camera, put into reader and download to your computer from that instead of camera ) and once you have camera settings in place turn off the menu on the LCD screen, it also uses battery life..Read full review
This camera is a great point and shoot! The HUGE screen on the back lets you look at what you've shot without squinting at a little bitty screen. The different functions are easily accessible with the toggle wheel. The high ISO settings allow for some really great shots in low lighting. The only complaint I can muster against it is the digital zoom makes for "fuzzy" pictures at a bit of distance. Other than that I have not found anything I don't like about the camera.
I've been a Nikon fan since I started buying digital cameras. I love the look of their design. My S50 is almost a year old (will be on May 15th) and it's still in great working condition. The S50 is very elegant and I love the huge display screen on the back. The scroll wheel is also nice, though I don't use it too often. My mom also has a similar one in navy blue (I believe it's a S51). The pictures come out beautiful. I'm often called Paparazzi Patti and with this camera around, it's easy to see why. Just another great product by Nikon.
This Coolpix S50 is GREAT!!! I use it mainly for candid shots of my (first) grandson. I also use it for quick shots of plants for my gardening club, and for my own files. I like its compactness and extra sensitivity to light. I also own a large 8 Mp camera (also a Nikon) which I carry on vacations. This S50 may just replace the larger camera sometimes. I almost wish that ths had been my first foray into digital photography. I would have saved a LOT of money!
