It is a model 1852 US Navy Officer's Sword, used in the 1861-1865 Civil War. The blade is made of carbon steel and has a silver color. The handle is made of brass, adding to its elegance. This sword is an original piece, not a reproduction, and was made in the United States. It is a perfect addition to any collection of collectible swords, sabers, and knives.We know from this that there was a United States Naval Officer who received this sword 9 years prior to the begining of the civil war and that he would have been drawn into that war on April 12th, 1861. The amazing condition of this sword after one hundred and seventy two years is a witness and tribute to the quality of the original makers of that day.”
