One of the best films of the eighties. Director William Friedman delivers one of the best cinematic offerings of his directorial career. William Petersen (Manhunter; C.S.I.) plays Richard Chance--a Secret Service agent hot on the trail of Eric Masters, a master counterfeiter played by Willem Dafoe, (Platoon; Spiderman; Motherless Brooklyn) who murdered Chance's partner. Released at a time when the highly-stylized Miami Vice was everywhere--this film very much holds its own; as it has aged ever-so well, nearly forty-years later. Also...contains one of the most memorable car chases ever captured on film.One of the best films of the eighties. To Live and Die in L.A. has been a favorite of mine since I saw it in the theater. I've been upgrading my collection of VHS tapes to DVD and this was one I had to have. The DVD has some added features, like a section on the making of the movie and interviews with the cast. This was a great film to showcase the early work of a couple of today's biggest actors (Dafoe and Turturro). Wang Chung's soundtrack was also critical in making this movie what it was. I bought the soundtrack on CD many years ago. I actually bought two copies of the DVD. One for my collection and one to give to my friend, who has the same kind of brown Chevy Caprice that was used in the chase scene.
