"The White Seal" is a timeless childhood tale that will delight children and bring back nostalgic memories for adults. The story centers on the life of a seal named Kotick, following his exploits and trials. As he grows older, Kotick realizes that the seals need a place to go where they will be safe from poachers. He goes on a search and eventually finds a secluded beach where no humans go that will ensure that the seals will always have a safe place to live. There is very little to complain about when it comes to "The White Seal". The story is solid, the narration is well done and the soundtrack is just right. This is a story that will definitely entertain kids while also teaching lessons about animal cruelty. The DVD also comes with a bonus story, "The Cricket in Times Square". It's the story of a cricket who is accidentally transported from the fields of Connecticut to a train station in Times Square. He befriends a helpful mouse and a cat with a taste for classical music, both of whom live near a struggling newsstand that sells musical literature. More or less by accident, the cricket learns that he can play any song just by hearing it and begins playing music at the newsstand, boosting visitors and profits in the process. While "Cricket" is a nice story, it doesn't have the same heart behind it as "White Seal". It seems more written for music appreciation than entertainment and may lose kids' attention at certain points (or just go over their heads) when they begin talking music. Overall, this DVD is a solid buy. "White Seal" is a classic that must be shared with future generations, and if you have yet to see this story, then do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. You won't be disappointed.Read full review
I Bought this tape for the BONUS feature. The Very merry Cricket was my favorite Christmas story as a child. It is a sequel to the Cricket in Times square. Simply a must see for people of all ages that love short stories that make you appriciate the simple things in life. Chester the cricket is invited back to Times square by his two friends ( a cat and a mouse ) to play his beautiful music and remind people what Christmas is all about. Adorable 30 minute story. The white seal was also a cute short story. But my favorite is Chester the cricket... I would recommend you check this cute little dvd out.
So pleased. Great DVD for kids. Especially loved Chester Cricket.

I am actually buying this movie as a memory of my own childhood. I watched it continuously every week to the point when my Mother would hide it on me! I haven't watched it recently, but from what i remember it's a very good movie for children.
