Initially based on the concept of The Beatles' movies "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!", this sitcom brought these 4 youngsters into America's living rooms each and every week. They also provided songs into each episode, resulting in top ten singles and platinum albums. They even went out on an actual ... When MTV re-broadcast the Monkees episodes back-to-back-to-back in the 80's, I missed out taping about a dozen shows,The video quality was pretty bad and they used edited versions (different songs)and even deleted sceens, not to mention all the commercials, and the lame comments the VJ's had to say, anyway this box set is wonderful, it has all the episodes and the the Special 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee, which I haden't seen in 40 years. The Box resembles a TV set and all 21 tapes have there own sleeves describing each episode and the origional songs played in each episode ( there are many songs that have different versions that what are on the Lp's....Mary, Mary, I Wanna Be Free Star Collector (without Moog synthesizer), Auntie Grizelda, and the origional version of Vallerie (thats ... The video quality is excellent, The opening credits/titles are restored (the MTV versions used only one of the opening credits versions)and some of the origional Kellogg's commercials with the Monkees in them are included, even tho VHS is a dying format, I've heard that Rhino did little to clean up the DVD releases and even used the MTV versions on the discs.Here they are lovingly re-stored to their origional glory. The only problem I have with these tapes is that the are in a rather random order, each tape has 3 episodes, but there is no rhyme or reason to the running order, some tapes have 1 episode from season 1 and two from season 2, and vise-a-versa, but other than that I'm really enjoying these tapes, If you are a Monkees fan this box set is beautiful and a treasure to own!

I used to watch this all the time when i was a kid. Enen now they sound great. The shows might seem corny, but they still stand the test of time. I saw them in 87, they were groovy.
