  • Robt. Lockwood,Jr, Plays His Own & Robt. Johnson Songs

These all beautifully performed and recorded numbers. I bought it even though I already had it on both LP and cassette. Most of the accompaniments, for which Lockwood is more famous than his singing, are on electric 12-string. The clarity and inventiveness of his playing are very unusual for a Delta bluesman, yet here we have much more blues than jazz when it comes to sound and style. He once sent these out from his home in Cleveland (that was the cassette format), but it's great to have them available in the more permanent format of the CD. Listeners will recognize all the Robert Johnson numbers as his most renowned, as well as several of Lockwood's own. Lockwood is much missed, but he did maintain his chops virtually to the end. --Prof.Tom Tulloss,PhD,UMUC in Europe
