About this product

Product Information

In this inimitable classic, Anne Morrow Lindbergh shares her meditations on youth and age, love and marriage, peace, solitude, and contentment during a brief vacation by the sea. Drawing inspiration from the the shells on the shore, Lindbergh's musings on the shape of a woman's life will bring new understanding to readers, male and family, at any stage of life. A mother of five and professional writer, she casts an unsentimental eye at the trappings of modern life that threaten to overwhelm us -- the timesaving gadgets that complicate our lives, the overcommitments that take us from our families -- and by recording her own thoughts in a brief escape from her everyday demands, she guides her readers to find a space for contemplation and creativity in their own lives. With great wisdom and insight she describes the shifting shapes of relationships and marriage, presenting a vision of a life lived in enduring and evolving partnership. A groundbreaking work when it was first published, this book has retained its freshness as it has been rediscovered by generations of readers and is no less current today.

  • Written for Women: Great for Anyone in a Relationship.

This book was first loaned to me by an older gentleman who joked that it was written by a middle aged women for married women experiencing mid life crisis. In actuality this is a wonderful book for both genders, which offers golden advice on the value of solitude, the necessity of living in the moment, and the need for embracing change whether we like it or not. The first half of the book is geared more towards females, but from there on it becomes a collection of precious insights into the pains and joys of long term relationships and how to ensure they survive and flourish. I couldn't resist purchasing two copies; one for myself and one to share with others.

  • A delightful interlude in every chapter

This book first entered my life as my sister was leaving hers. The Cancers had taken so much away from her, her best pleasure was in reading the books she had finally found time for. One of her favorite songs is Jim Croce s "If i could save time in a bottle"..the final words , :when all i really wanted was a little more time... She didn't. But she did give me this book, and i keep it with pleasure, tender endearing moments...i read it in my sisters voice, and laugh through those tears which still come. I do not want to hold her close to this earth with my sorrow,,,i let her laugh her startles laughter, hear her wry humor. Feel her vast compassion, above all. This book, i have gotten again, to send to my mother and to my other sisters mother. We will learn from it what we will, and take that ...
