Synopsis
After her husband's death, a young widow with a faithful Great Dane must decide between two men -- but as new love blossoms, jealousy turns deadly in this suspenseful New York Times bestseller. Julie Barenson's young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died - a Great Dane puppy named Singer and the promise that he would always be watching over her. Now four years have passed. Still living in the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina, twenty-nine-year-old Julie is emotionally ready to make a commitment to someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, the handsome, sophisticated engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down-to-earth nice guy who was her husband's best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she's had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by a chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire...

His books are worth the money & the time. Great reads!

Since I lived in the New Bern area sixty years ago, the towns he mentions in his books are plain for me to picture. Also having a family member living in one of the beautiful beach towns south of New Bern, his books & locations bring the stories closer to me. His books are page turners with endings that aren’t always what you might expect. His characters are so real & you can’t wait to see what will happen next. You can’t imagine how a new book could ever out-due the last but it certainly seems that it does. I’m anxiously awaiting his next book!

  • Very Good Story!!!!!

I had read this book before, and bought it again thinking I had not read it. It is such a good story, I read it again. Julie's husband Jim has passed away. Christmas brings an unexpected delivery and a letter from her deceased husband. The delivery is a Great Dane puppy. Julie's best friend is Jim's best friend, Mike. Julie is a hairdresser, working for Jim's aunt Mabel. When Julie came to town, at Jim's invitation-her mother had kicked her out of the house-Mabel gave Julie a job and a place to live. Julie dates Richard, who ends up being bad news. Once they break up she and Mike start dating. That's when Richard started showing his bad side. He ends up stalking Julie.

  • the guardian by nicholas sparks

I am reading quite a few of Sparks books, this was one I had not obtained yet, can't wait to delve into it. I like the author, it gives me great escape from the stresses of daily life. Yet it isn't tedious, predictable reading.
