This reference book is much more than a book for identifying birds at your backyard feeder. This is a comprehensive resource of 288 pages, well written and beautifully illustrated with color photographs on every page. If you can only purchase one book as your bird resource manual, make it this one. It is arranged in four main chapters. The first, "Understanding Birds," is a complete informative digest on birds -- their life cycle, feathers, flight, migration, songs, diet, reproduction, etc. Chapter 2 is "Backyard Birds," and it has good, basic information on feeders, seed/food preferences, and how to attract and keep birds as visitors in your backyard. Chapter 3, "Going Birding" covers everything one would need to know in order to plan and execute a trip for the purpose of sighting ... This reference book is much more than a book for identifying birds at your backyard feeder. This is a comprehensive resource of 288 pages, well written and beautifully illustrated with color photographs on every page. Great Entry into Science of Birding
Got this book after I got a pair of birding binoculars for Mother's Day. Right away, I really liked this book for the way that they grouped the pictures of the birds by habitat. I was able to quickly identify several birds I had wondered about. But as I continued to look through this book, I started to understand that there are other methods of identification, which are the building blocks of the science of birding. As I become more familiar with these processes and work through these methods, I will eventually obtain an invaluable skill. Which was more than I bargained for when I bought this book of "bird pictures". It is way more than that! This book is very well written and easily understood and will be a "go to" book for a long time. And the beautiful cover and photos/artwork ... Birding reference book
We have recently realized our dream of moving to the country. We are on 42 acres of land in Mississippi, much of which is wetlands. We began setting up bird feeders and soon realized that there were more species of birds than we could readily identify. This book hae full color pictures and brief descriptions of the birds, their habitats, whether they migrate or remain in one area. In short, for a fledgling bird watcher, it has provided us with a great resource and much pleasure. Birding
This is one of the best bird books I have ever seen. It is great especially for kids, and even adults. My son brought it home from the school library, and our whole family absolutely loves it!
