BLOOD WORK, starring Clint Eastwood as retired FBI agent Terry McCaleb, is a mystery thriller about a serial killer whose latest victim was the organ donor responsible for McCaleb's recent heart transplant. When the victim's sister, Graciella (Wanda de Jesus), delivers this strange news to him and asks for his help, he has no choice but to answer her call, against his doctor's wishes. While frisky LAPD officers try to keep McCaleb away because his top-notch profiling skills make their efforts seem feeble, and McCaleb's physical strength and stamina are limited more than ever before, it seems as if the case is destined to go unsolved. But McCaleb's conscience weighs too heavily upon him to let the murderer go free, and the only way to clear his mind and find peace is to throw his full energy into the investigation. McCaleb lives on a boat and is well-acquainted with a lazy, drunken young man, Buddy (Jeff Daniels), who lives on a boat in the same berth, so he enlists Buddy as his driver and assistant. What ensues is an excellent police drama that leads McCaleb through an extensive process of analyzing evidence, questioning people related to the crimes, and breaking codes, and results in a chilling and totally unexpected climax.

Not as good as the book.
For anyone who has read any of Michael Connelly's books, it is clear that no film will ever do them justice. This one is no exception. It's one thing to compress the story's events to fit the allotted time, but it's another thing altogether to flat-out change the story line and characters roles. This rendition does both. It's a well-made enough film, but I'll stick to the books.

Prior to his condition worsening, he had been working a case tracking a serial killer. He was close, but still hadn't caught him. The heart donor was a female victim of the serial killer, and her heart was a rare perfect match. His healing ongoing, he is visited by the sister of his donor, Graciella (Wanda de Jesus). She wants his assistance in finding the killer, and although his doctor vehemently objects, he just can't say no. Using his friend, Buddy (Jeff Daniels), who is a lazy, drunken, young man who lives on a boat in the same boat slip as his, as an assistant and driver, he begins the investigation. Every serial killer needs his audience. . .and who is a better audience than the police and profiler trying to catch him. Creepy movie.

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this must see movie that portrays the logical result of government intervention in private health care, combined with warped evil manipulation, set in a good-guy vs. bad-guy framework. Today the ethical issues of organ donation, come to a melodramatic movie that shows what can happen, and may be happening for donors to drive the supply! The plot development is clear, the villain insidious (Jeff Daniels, *Dumber and Dumbest), and the women in distress make this a most believable atrocity with a conclusion related to the problem. A happy ending is possible despite the scars of a battle of epic proportions. The ties with organ donors, together with motivations for murder to obtain fresh organs, builds the investigation into a timely consideration for ... Your experience concludes considering the possible societal impact of health care today, and some fabulous performances. Together with a superb supporting cast, the former FBI investigator played by Clint goes mono-a-mono with an unknown adversary that ends in a shocking and atrocious unveiling of culprit in a violent and irreversible climax. Not recommended for younger viewers. Must see, this movie raised questions important in modern age of health marvels, and brings back detective work Clint Eastwood, Jeff Daniels, Wanda De Jesus, Tina Lifford, Paul Rodriguez, Dylan Walsh, and Angelica Huston. "Unforgiven" finds a note of forgiveness in the ending. Shocking, stunning, and every kudos for and encore are the memory of this extraordinary production. Fugitive showed us how serious his work can be for our friend in Hollywood, and "Bloodwork" proves that issues that matter are more than action and explosions. Not the money, rather the people we care about and loyalty against overwhelming odds are the currency still traded by this cast, ENCORE!! Malpasso Productions
