About this product

Product Information

A wry and amusing musical about a world famous candymaker who hides five golden tickets in candy bars for five lucky children. Young, good-natured Charlie (Peter Ostrum) wins one of the tickets hidden amongst thousands of Wonka chocolate bars. What have Charlie and the other four kids won? A tour through Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, led by the loveable, eccentric, but often mean-spirited Wonka (Gene Wilder) himself. The factory itself is like a fantasy world: crazy color schemes, wild inventions, secret rooms, busy oompa-loompas, and lots and lots of delectable sweets. But Wonka has a hidden agenda, and during the tour he tests each child's character and honesty. Based on Roald Dahl's children's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

    Willy Wonka Is A Delight

Grandson loved this version! He said, "I grew up with the other version, which I like, but I love this version! It's funnier and not so scary." I rather like that critique from a 9 year old boy! LOL As for me, "I grew up (LOL) with this version and I love it too!" In fact, I bought this Gene Wilder version as a stocking stuffer for my husband this past Christmas. It's delightful!

  • Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971)

This is a wonderful movie that will for sure be passed on for generation to generation. Based on the book by Roald Daul, Mel Stuart takes you on a great big adventure through the chocolate factory. Five golden tickets have been hidden in the Wonka bars for five lucky children to find. Not only do they get to tour the factory, but are given a life supply of chocolates. Charlie Bucket - the more nicer of the five, (Peter Ostrum) is the boy that loves and cares for everyone. Mr. Willy Wonka, (Gene Wilder) is a kind-hearted, a bit scary and mysterious person who lives with the Oompa Loompas within the factory with the heart of a child. As he takes them through the factory, ...

  • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Whats not to love about this movie? Watching it brings back all the memories of it watching it when I was 7 yrs old! It even brought back all of the same fears! Remember slugworth or the boat ride through tunnel where all of your worst fears were shown going faster and faster until you finally got to STOP THE BOAT??!! Or how about walking through the "little door" and seeing all of that yummy candy yours for the taking? Well this movie lets you remember all of it again plus alot more! The extras this movie has are awesome. The one I love best was watching the movie with the original cast members and hearing all of the little inside secrets from the making the movie and the fun they all had doing it. Buy this movie and relive all the retro memories you might have. My kids love it too and ...

  • A CLASSIC!

For me Gene Wilder will always be the true Willy Wanka (sorry Johnny Dep) and I will probably never stop having the Oompa Loompa song pop into my head at odd moments. Quite frankly this movie was such a wonderful translation of Roald Dahl's book, that I was surprised that anyone would want to remake it. The storyline is brilliant, the "lessons" universal, and the special effects, cheesy but in a good good way. As I follow Charlie's quest for the ticket and his journey through the factory I feel his sadness, joy and wonder. When I was picking out DVDs for my kids, this was at the top of the list. It is a must have for Childs DVD library.
