    Excellent winter tire

This tire has a lot o grip. But the side wall height of the tire is less that my previous one ( 1 1/4"). So the ride is more harder. You'll need to deflate a lot to have a comfortable ride. Also because it's a grippy tire you'll loose a little bit of speed. The studs are small, but I think it is a good size. In fact, if you can find this tire at a bargain price I will go for it. Otherwise, you'll need to spend almost 250$/each. Remember, this tire is for condition where you have a lot of snow or icy conditions. If you ride in groom places, where the snow is packed, you can choose something else. My previous tire was a Big Daddy 4.9"(the most basic tire you can find). To finish, the most important thing I found out about this tire is the balloon ride and a little speed lost compare to my ...

  • Work well on glaze ice and on icy hills

I've had these on only a couple of days. Ice this winter is tough - near freezing so a bit of water on top in places. I've cycled singletrack with spotty ice. Going down hill and uphill on the icy trails has been consistent and stable, for the most part. Riding on flat glaze ice for long periods has also been stable. No crashes in about 5 hours of riding. Wish I could post a pic, but no way I see to do that. As for lightweight, a 4.8" nominal studded tire is heavy, but compared to others, it's as lightweight as it's going to be. I installed Specialized 26 x 3 tubes to also lighten the weight and that s working fine. For the novice, getting these large tires to seat can be tricky. Had to take the rear one up to almost 30 psi to get it to seat. At that pressure, a sudden blowout could ...

  • Worth their weight

After having a couple of falls on the ice my wife was ready to hang her fat bike up for the winter. I said studded tires would fix her problem. And they have. While these have added weight due to the studs in them they are worth it. We would not be riding without them due to the amount of ice we have seen this year. The price point is great as well. I highly recommend them for icy conditions.

  • Beastly tire, Excellent Grip, Not for Commuting or Pavement At All

Very fat tire, excellent grip. Good quality. I actually had to put my original 4" back on the rear, these were just too heavy to cycle with, and with one on the rear, you sound like a truck on pavement. You won't be slipping or sliding, but you will also get passed by small children on tricycles if you are running two of them. I bought these for winters in Finland where they don't salt the roads or sidewalks - had I tried them out beforehand, I would have only bought one for the front end. Definitely not commuter tires under most circumstances. I might put the second one back on once the lakes freeze to get to ice fishing spots.

  • Surpassed my epectations

I was using 26"x4" Chao Yang tires prior to these which were "okay" in the snow but terrible on ice. I slapped these studded 4.8" tires on and OMG, what a difference. They are noisy which is to be expected. They are quite a bit heavier, also to be expected. But they perform amazing in deep snow and on ice. I just float over snow.
