The enhanced optical 78x zoom has been added to the compact body of the easy-to-carry camcorder. A small camcorder with a lot of good features (like the zoom) and video
This is a small, lightweight camcorder that packs a lot of good features and high quality video. First of all, the zoom is incredible. The optical zoom is one of the best on the market, and generally retains the quality of video, along with the digital zoom, which is very extensive, but loses quality after about 100X. Still, a very, very good zoom lense. As for the video that it produces, its good quality for not being HD. Its a pretty good standard definition quality. The frame rate on the video is good. Audio is nice, and it includes a built-in zoom mic. Photos are not very good, but okay for the occassional user. Just don't expect to get your photos in a calendar using this camcorder. Works good in low light conditions, though it has to drop the shudder speed (its not infrared). ... This is a small, lightweight camcorder that packs a lot of good features and high quality video. Though its not water-proof, I've dropped it in watery mud before and it still works fine. Overall, a great camcorder for the price.

A powerful little camera that packs a Mike Tyson punch for very little $$
This is a really excellent camera for someone who wants a great video camera but doesnt have alot of cash. You can get a refurbished one nowadays for like $100 to $150 . PRO'S : * Unbelievable zooming capability * lightweight * really strong sound pickup * simple controls to operate * holds up to 64 gig memory card which is more than you'll ever need to film all day long CONS : * Battery display could be a tad better designed to display time left in digital number format rather than battery icon. * battery life could be a little longer. * after you zoom in and start to use digital zoom ( more than optical 78X ) then camera becomes a bit shaky handheld. Overall , even with the having to change the battery within a 2 hour period , this is a fantastic camera. I overcame the battery problem ... This way , you are NEVER without camera power ! I also got a tripod for the shakiness problem when zooming in MORE than 78X ( this camera offers 3500X digital ), so that resolved the shakiness problem ! Panasonic SDR-S50 Camcorder
What I really like about this Panasonic SDR-S50 Camcorder is the mega zoom lens at 78X this has power of a small telescope. This camcorder take stills at this zoom power as well a video. The video quality is good for this standard definition camera. The still picture quality is okay for a standard definition. Features are great and the camera is easy to use.

Likes: Easy to use even for a total beginner. Uses a common SDHX card. Charges battery quickly. Easy focus function. Very compact and light weight. Easy to see view screen. Easy upload to You Tube. Dislikes: You need the Panasonic Suite 3 program to view all videos. Videos do not play on a regular windows player. Software does come with camera and will convert the video files so you can record it onto a DVD, but that is a extra step that I don't think is necessary, videos should be able to play on any program such as windows media player, Quick Time or DIVX, but don't. So be careful when buying a used Panasonic camcorder because without the Panasonic Suite 3 program disc, your videos will be worthless and not be able to view them. An optical view finder wold be a big plus.If you want a high cap.battery,they are expensive.Chinese batteries are available quite inexpensively but cannot be charged on the unit with the provided charger.You must also buy a special charger.
