Gamecube Broadband Adapter
I wanted to play Phantasy Star Online, online. I already had the game and I found that it could be played on a private server for free. So I invested in one of this adapter. Now at an average ebay bid price at 15 quid, with buy it now at 45, I knew my free gaming would come at a price but I was willing to buy this for the long term benefit. I received this in the post and managed to find a manual online. That took some doing because as all official servers for gamecube games are permenently down, nintendo took it off their site along with all other information. This I didn't see as a problem. An adapter? Does what it says on the box, so to speak. I plugged it easily in the bottom of the gamecube. Getting it connected to the internet is a different story though. No what an ethernet cable is? You need to. The adapter needs wiring directly to a router or hub. Considering you're trying to take an extinct bit of kit online unofficially, it can be presumed you have some technical skill with computers. However, it is a chore if it does not plug in and play. Here's a hint, use DMZ and your I.P. address ending in 100. That took a while to find. If you're considering buying, know you need to be able to plug it directly in, wireless doesn't cut it. However, once it's set up, it works as it should and any problems occuring will not be to do with the device. It's so basic it can't not work. Pros: Easy to plug in and play. Free gaming. Cons: Can only be used for three games (and one of them is Japanese only) Takes some fixing if it doesn't plug in and play, both with the hub and the gamecube itself. With cost of cables etc. may not be 'free' enough to be worth it. In summary, if you've read this you're probably set on buying the adapter anyway. Go ahead if you want but keep in mind what you're letting yourself in on and speak to other players in online forums to see if the experience is work the expense in time and money.

I don't know much about the whole video game scene but my son is very happy with this game. He plays it quite often and has had nothing but good things to say about it. Now let me get back to playing my Atari from the 70s and conquering these challenging triangles and square shapes. Good, but underused.
I bought the gamecube broadband adapter to play Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2. For this, it is great. However the broadband adapter (and some other accessories like the gamecube keyboard) was practically made JUST for this game. You will find little to no other use for it. Still for what it does, it has no flaws I can point out. My online experience in PSO has had no hiccups so far.

Great little fun adapter to add to the GC. Makes it feel more special now that it has more enabled features and unlock BB connections. Famous now for PSO 1 and 2.
