This model came out in 2013 I think, but it still has the features most users need. It has the older style Sony X interface which works but just takes a few more button clicks to get where you want to go. Setup was easy and the internet connection is fine for wired or wireless. I didn't get this to do streaming because I already have an Android TV box. It works well for CDs, surround sound music and DVDs but I can't comment on how it handles Blu-rays yet. It was a great deal and you can't beat it for the price. The missing door is just a cosmetic issue and has no effect on performance.

We purchased this player for a back bedroom. It would not pick up our network. If we moved it to our living room where our modem is it did. This was our second try on a blue ray player with apps. We hooked our Apple TV up in the same room and it picked up the network fine-all the apps worked. We had purchased another brand before this one and it did the same thing. I guess the new players are made more cheaply. To much of a hassle to ship it back, so we are just using it as a DVD player.

I bought another sony blu ray for a little over $100 a few years ago and it has been great. Only thing I have an issue with is the youtube / netflix / etc functions. They are not 100% stable. But I have a fire stick for that kind of stuff. This blu ray player has played everything I have given it. Blu rays, dvds, no problem. The image quality on my 4k tv is great. For the price, you definitely can't beat it!

After 8 years I needed a new Blue Ray player and after a lot of research of other models, I decided to just buy a refurbished same unit and I still happy with the quality and features. Not much has changed in the "smart Wi-fi" DVD's so this was a great value

I purchased this DVD player to replace an older Sony model. Looks to be a good choice, since it was easy to hook up even for me. The picture is somewhat better, but the controls are far superior to my older mode and the remote is seriously better. It looks like a good choice on my part.

Being a refurb, the price was very good. I was surprised by how small it was, the pictures were a little deceiving but it's not a problem, it works great. I was disappointed that there were no instructions at all, nothing. I had to get the owners manual on my own, on line. Once that was settled I was very pleased with this unit. It does everything I expected

I have a couple different brands of Blu Ray players and wanted to give a nice one to my wife. I bought a 'like new' Samsung that was the worst experience. I really liked my Sony so I found this one that was a newer model and a warranty with a no questions return policy. This machine was awesome. This machine updated its software when first plugged in and never hiccupped since! Very nice menu integration, easy use and best new feature- Closed Captioning! She says this is the best machine we have ever used and I agree.
I am coming from a DVD player that could not be connected to the internet, and that did not have an USB input with enough power to drive a portable hard drive. The Sony is able to drive a portable drive, and in this way I am able to play lots of music that I have stored there in MP3 format. This is very important for me. The internet connection is a very nice feature as well. You can access Hulu, netflix, etc. The 4 stars are because the navigation is slow and poor. In addition , you can go through a lng list of options for video (through internet) but could not find a way to mark more than just a few as favorites. I simply forget some channels that I had liked, and having to go through many channels to see what they are is slow and painful.
I own three of these players and they are the best product Imhave owned. The picture is clear and very easy to stream neflix. The 3D image is as good as any at a much better price. I highly recommend owning this player.

This standalone Sony BDP-BX510 Blu-ray player can actually play Cinavia movie files via the USB connection on the front and back! And it's absolutely amazing that it's currently selling for only $49.99 on Ebay at the link listed below! I have played the following file formats: MKV, MP4, M2TS, VOB and MPG. You want to talk value? This player has an Internet Browser, tons of apps, for example: Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Crackle, Pandora, SiriusXM, VUDU, NBA Game Time, Vimeo, Wired, Flixter, Slacker and NPR to name a few! It even has DNLA capabilities so you can stream media from a network. I have discovered there are certain things to be noted when playing MKV and M2TS files via USB on this Blu-ray player. For the most part, you can't play them directly from a Full Movie copy of DVDFab. The header information in the M2TS is compressed and needs to be corrected before it can be fully playable on the blu-ray player. If you don't do this, the movie will play around 20 minutes and then freeze. To correctly process M2TS or MKV, use the Blu-ray Ripper module in DVDFab with M2TS Passthrough or MKV Passthrough to retain HD audio. If you don't own this module, you can also process this in Handbrake, however, there is no way to passthrough Dolby TrueHD with this program. So in this respect, DVDFab's Blu-ray Ripper is the best program to use for this. Another thing you need to keep in mind is DO NOT press the remote's ENTER button to play movies. It is merely for Preview and at best it will play around 5 minutes and then freeze. So if you've ever felt that it's time to replace your media player or other standalone, NOW is the time with this fantastic Blu-ray player for only $50!Read full review
